Wait a minute. You think Vaughn was trying to set Sydney up and that Irina was related to her disappearance?
First, what possible motive could Vaughn have? There’s no hint he’s been working for anyone other than the CIA, and he couldn’t have orchestrated the systematic destruction of Sydney’s life that way.
Second, if Irina was even partly responsible for Sydney’s disappearance, then why would she work with Jack to find Sydney? Remember, Jack went to her for help, and she obviously aided him in some manner, or Lindsey wouldn’t have had him imprisoned.
As for Mrs. Vaughn, she is not Alice, his former girlfriend. I can confirm that without spoiling anything.
If we look at the history of this show, we should know that we can’t predict the true colors of many of the characters. I have questioned the loyalties of Jack, Vaughn, Irina, and Sloan throughout the show.
If they wanted to make the Vaughn betrayal really good, they would give no hints. His involvement in this sort of role would only work if we knew nothing about it. If the slowly reveal this to be the truth this year, it would make for a very interesting plot twist. He needs no motive, it’s a t.v. show.
Irina has shown that she will betray anyone to get what is best for herself. She perhaps used Sydney for a few missions, then, when she had what she wanted, helped Jack to get closer to the truth. Irina obviously knew something, or she wouldn’t have been able to help Jack at all.
The best part is, these are just my opinions. Let’s wait and see.
I just watched the season premiere of Alias. I’m glad ABC put up that large graphic in the lower left hand corner telling me it was the first episode of the season–what a helpful reminder. Sheesh.
Anyway, on to the show:
Love that Weiss is a major player now. He’s funny and clever–now if only I could stop thinking of him as Sean from Felicity.
I hope that Dixon’s promotion means he’ll play a significant role this year. Last season, Carl Lumbly was woefully underused.
Okay, Vaughn got married. We’ve known that all summer. But can we please have more about how the DNA test of the remains found in the fire matched Sydney’s? And where the hell is Allison/Francie?
Jack was released from prison entirely too soon. How intense and maddening would it have been to keep Sydney from the one person who knew where she was the whole time?
Marshall and Carrie. Cute.
The Rambaldi device said “Peace”? Ugh. Even if there’s more to that (and I’m sure there is), Sloane’s speech made me cringe. Also, how the hell did Sloane get a pardon? Even if he turned himself in, hadn’t he done enough evil to stay locked up forever?
He didn’t just turn himself in – he negotiated the pardon in exchange for information about 20 terrorrist groups. This is a clue that Sloane isn’t as altruistic now as he pretends. If he hadn’t gotten the pardon, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have given up that information, no matter how much it was the right thing to do.
People are getting unconditional pardons left and right on this show. I would think pardoning would have a few more checks and balances attached to it. Oh well.
Actually, stolichnaya, while there is an office in the Justice Department which makes recommendations as to who might be appropriately pardoned based on precedents, the power to pardon is about the least-constrained thing a member of the government can do.
