All About Court (Or, Following Up On a Now Non-Existent Thread)

I had the illustrious honor of testifying in court today, at a preliminary hearing. For an hour. Without water, because if I had poured it, everyone would have seen how terribly I was shaking. And it was the first time I had seen the person who assaulted me in almost three months.

Suffice to say, I was very scared and nervous, but I’m very glad this much of it, at least, is over. I was not at all impressed with the defense lawyers, whose main goal seemed to be to confuse me.

For details, see my weblog.

iconoplast,

I am sorry you had a reason to have to be in court, especially that reason. But since you had to be there in order to say to this guy You can’t just do whatever you want to whom ever you want I say Yay and good for you ! Maybe someone else will see you come through this and decide to do the same thing if they are ever (heaven forbid) assaulted. Sadly this crime happens far too often, and when it is a person we know and trust it is even worse.

Far too often women do not report sexual assault. I am glad you did do so.

Yes it is the defense teams job to try to confuse, shake or even discredit you if possible. Their job is to try to get their client off. And if they have to put you through the ringer to do it they will try.

I am sure you did a great job. Keep your chin up and keep standing up for yourself. Let us know how things progress.

Be strong. Roast the bastard.

Ayesha: Thanks. The main reason I’m pursuing this is so he can’t do it to anyone else. Jail and mandatory sex offender classes will get it out of his system, I hope. And so far as the defense goes, there are so many more effective ways to discredit someone then by asking such nonsensical questions that the asker ends up looking foolish. They actually asked me, “So you’re saying it was the evening of the morning then?” after I said that something happened at midnight.

spooje: A good thanks to you too. I’d prefer a good old-fashioned smiting, and I’d even settle for castration, but roasting works.

Maybe we could have a barbeque after?
