All About Eve

That would be Alexander Woollcott.

Scotticher would never have corrected me in public that way.

::runs away sobbing, his face buried in his hands::

DAVE . . . Ike . . . get a room!

Got THAT right…I would have gently whispered in your delectable ear…‘honey, it is spelled [however the Sam Hill it is spelled]’ and nibbled. On your ear. With great delight and wonder.

Heavens, I am GOOD…sometimes I wonder why I am single.

If Dave and Ike get a room…would it be wrong of me to fall on my knees and beg to be allowed to take pictures?

Eve: I do believe I’m available next weekend. If not, well, I’ll freaking make myself available. Anything for you.

As for manny being the envy of the Algonquin, well, thanks to Miss C & Eve, he was. I was dressed nicely, but IRL, I’m a jibbering idiot, and my major goal that afternoon was to simply try not to humiliate anyone. So far, no one has said that I did anything stupid, so I guess I achieved my goal.

…causing the top third of my head to disengage from my skull and hover like a Frisbee two inches above my cranium while steam escaped from my ears.

Persephone, you’ll be allowed to take pictures only if you fall to your knees.

Once again, as in the “Margaret Dumont Appreciation Thread,” we have taken over one of Eve’s threads and run amok like the Brothers Marx, while she stands in dignified horror and mild amusement a la Margaret Dumont amidst the insanity.

Eve, we mean no harm or disrespect. It is my sincere wish that, as Margaret Dumont did, you love and appreciate the unbridled silliness of those who love and appreciate you.

But this is your thread, lovely lady. To that end, I promise to behave myself (which, unfortunately, holds as much water as Harpo promising to behave himself and stop chasing blondes).

To show my sincerity, I herewith pose another question:

You had started a thread a while back regarding, IIRC, a swing concert at Lincoln Center. I know Cajun Man expressed interest, as did I. Is this still on? When and where? I would like to meet you now, more than ever, and show my esteem for your bravery, class and dignity in person.

And if I waggle my eyebrows at you in Groucho fashion, please understand I mean no disrespect.

I have remained completely out of this thread, despite longing to welcome Eve back, due to a major travesty committed very early on in it, which reflects very negatively on me.

In the discussion of choice, relative to one of the interminable homosexuality threads in Great Debate, late in the last millennium, I made a statement relating to social conditioning and choice and illustrated it with the fact that Eve was quite free to choose to move to North Carolina and start a farm; it was merely the cultural advantages of New York which she preferred that mitigated against her doing it. Taking her cue from my obvious set-up, she proceeded to write a dead-on parody of the Eva Gabor lines from the Green Acres theme in response.

The lady is most capable of rising to any occasion whatsoever in her inimitable style!

Kentucky, indeed!

How to be subtle?

I missed you, and badly too. Your thoughtful words, your love of cinema, your adoration of style and class. Who ELSE appreciated Cobalt Blue Glass and Bakalite like you? Huh? Nobody ! That’s who !!!

I can understand why you went away, it’s a highly personal issue to have to deal with day to day, and with 21,000 strangers that’s a bit much. I’d no clue about the trans thing, I dont’ tend to keep up with Dopefest Gossip much and so perhaps I’d missed the whole thing.

Examine these images. This is me, this is me not giving a rat’s patootie about that part of your life. This is me reading your words and being grateful that you found the SDMB at all.

Peace to you, Eve. You’re home.

Cartooniverse

Yes I know. My great uncle died when I was 10. It always facinated me when he would talk about it. Especially since that’s basically the only memory I have of him. Thus my question to Eve.

Disdale - I was thinking Addams Family because of “Thing.” And I kinda thought thats what we were discussing… a lost “thing.”

Jesuslynch, my friend, it might behoove you to quit while you’re behind…:), since I quite doubt that the ever-perspicacious Eve missed your question the first time. I don’t believe the odds of its being answere will improve with repetion, particularly since you seem to be working on iteration four.

Just like my spelling doesn’t improve when I’m sick and groggy :D.

All I have to say is THANK GOD!

Having not seen Eve on the board lately, I assumed the worst; that she had finally acted on her previous threats and left us for a more deserving board. Eve, don’t scare us like that. We need you.

As for details of your personal history, all I can say is that in all the dopefests I’ve ever been to, the only time your name was mentioned was when we were listing our favorite people on the board. In my personal opinion, I have so much respect for you I wouldn’t care if you revealed you were actually Ed Zotti.

As for your appearance, your Alquonquin picture demonstartes that you remain a great looking woman. I plan on staying the course in my existing policy of shameless flirtation.

cackling out loud
Oh dear. That is high praise indeed.

Hmmm – think about it. Has anyone ever seen Eve and Ed Zotti together?

See, I told you I wouldn’t be able to keep my promise about behaving myself in this thread. Feel free to flame my keester with a curling iron,** Eve**.

I belatedly apologize for not following the etiquette of this thread by posting a completely off topic question for Eve.

So, Eve, I see that the documentary series Hollywood: A Celebration of the Silent Cinema has been re-released on VHS. Should I spring for the seventy bucks now or hold out for a DVD set?

Welcome back Eve.

Now, can you peel me a grape?

Jesus—As Oxy implied, I have no intention of answering that question. I certainly don’t mind your ASKING, but . . . well, I mean, REALLY.

Dave—When the Midsummer Night’s Swing schedule is posted, I’ll start a thread to see who wants to come dancing. I think it’s in June and July.

Nemo—Run, don’t walk, to pick up Kevin Brownlow’s “Hollywood.”

And now, with my thanks “to all you wooonderful people out there in the dark,” I think we should let this thread drift slowly out to sea, before people get REALLY sick of me . . .

I eagerly await further developments. Not only do I have a great fondness for swing, but I simply must meet Eve!

That, my dear, will never happen.

I have every intention of buying the series. I watched it back in the 70’s when it was originally broadcast and saw it again about ten years ago when I was able to rent them at a video store.

The dilemma I face is that I saw a reference to a DVD release of the set. If I had the choice, I’d certainly prefer that one, but I’ve been unable to confirm when (or even if) it’s being released. And while I don’t mind paying seventy bucks for the VHS series, I’d get annoyed if the DVD series comes out a week later.
