I’ll split off from your opinion at this point, with which I agree, but change what follows to this: gay-iconic divas’ exaggerated femininity changes them from regular people into characters who are way larger than life, into which someone who has damn few real role models in the world can immerse himself with abandon. It’s a way of throwing off the limitations of a life that may be less than fulfilling by becoming part of something else, something which has an essential *fabulosity * that won’t let you down.
I hadn’t thought about it, but I haven’t felt inspired by any divas since I came out. I wonder if there’s a connection…
