I’m not braggin’, I’m just sayin’ – three semesters of graduate school and still on top:
Four. Point. Oh. Baybee
Alexander Pope to James Joyce, with some Oscar Wilde thrown in for good measure – one class in Restoration Literature and one in Modernist English Lit, two term papers, and one of 'em entered in Literary Compass Graduate Essay Contest.
How 'bout you? You know your mom is telling everybody that you got all A’s this semester and even studies through Spring Break. Share your triumphs from this past semester.
You do realize, right, that a B+in grad school is a hint to drop out, right? All A’s in grad school is, like, default. An A- is punitive. . . but you knew that, right?
Not to rain on your parade, Mister/ Miss Cockypants. . . call us when you pass the exams.
Congratulations! SNICKER! Snort.
(I got 2 A-'s in 9 years. Made me pissed.)
My triumph this spring term? Survival!
(no mean intended. . . well, maybe a little, fellow humanities nerd. Big Joyce hug. Joyce/Wilde slash, even.)
There are still another six weeks to go for first semester and results don’t come out until mid-July. Perhaps then I’ll be able to share some triumphs.
Umm… I’m going to grad school for dual masters, and I’m sitting on about a 3.16 or so right now. 3.0 in one degree and 3.5 in another. I think I’m doing alright. I’m pretty damn sure I’ll pass any exam I’m given, though, scholastic or professional.
I made straight A’s both semesters this year. I’m in a 2 year nursing program. I also got this certificate thingy for the highest grade point average in my class and one for clinical excellence.
Yeah, I’ve been a nerd all my life. My mom has called all her friends to brag about my grades. :o
I got four A-minuses in grad school. One of them could be considered punative (and I could argue that I deserved an A anyway), but the other three were the result of an old professor on the edge of retirement who couldn’t keep track of things, and gave everyone an A-minus.
As for this semester (second bachelor’s (and teacher certification)), with one grade left to be submitted, all As, which will maintain my 4.0. The one grade left will be an A when it’s submitted (I have a 99.67% in the class).
Great riposte! I wish we lived closer together – you’re the kind of guy I’d love to play poker with. We would have good times together.
No exams. We do close reading of the assigned texts, then write a 15- to 20-page paper with annotated bibliography on a topic concerning the studied material that has never before been written. If we, in the professor’s estimation, raise worthy points that haven’t been previously explored, support our points with existing scholarship and document the scholarship with precision and accuracy, then we get a passing grade. A’s are reserved for papers that are worthy of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Only if the coeds have daddy fantasies. And, my loving wife of 35 years might not understand my … uh … “research” of the Romantic period.
You mean that wasn’t just a really short 26-year-old? I thought he had an awfully high voice! God, I hate that kid. If he shows up in the Shakespeare seminar this summer, I’m liable to go all Macbeth on his ass!
I’m not sure that’s completely fair. Some grad programs are different than others, and some programs do grade in such a way that a grade below an A is not necessarily indicative of poor work. It can merely mean that the standard for an A has risen. This is especially true in coursework Masters programs.
It is true, i think, that most PhD programs expect an A level of work from everyone. My PhD program doesn’t even give grades for coursework, or for your comprehensive exams. The assumption is that A-level work is required of everyone, and you can either do it or you can’t. Pass or fail.
Managment of Technology: A (actually a 106 for the semester, but who’s rounding?)
Human Resources Management: A
Operations Management: A
Urbanization in the World: A
S/he is. Not all of us are taking “humanity nerd” programs, that allow us to get 106% for a given semester. I’m doing alot better, GPA wise, in my management program than I’m doing in my engineering program because, well, it’s easier. I’ll use my engineering degree, however, to actually do stuff, while my management degree will serve mostly to boost my salary.
I got a “B” in my first grad class, and have since gotten 2 "A-"s, so I’ll never see a 4.0. But I got an “A” in both classes this semester (yay!), bringing my average up to a 3.79, and I expect to graduate next year with a solid 3.8 (I have one graded class left to take, this fall, and will do my thesis next spring). That will be almost a full point higher than my undergrad GPA. grin
Count me among those saying “it ain’t necessarily so.”
Working on Masters degree here… Just made two As. I however don’t have a 4.0. I made a B the semester I idiotically tried to take 3 classes in one semester. 3.85 Baybee! (or something like that)
