Unless you’re in the military, the President IS NOT your Commander in Chief. He is your president.
Here’s a simple chart:

Now that I have that out of the way - to the Clinton basher above: how do you see with your head THAT FAR up your anus?
So let me get this right. I open a thread because I thought that Clinton might be grandstanding. People tell me I’m wrong and post reasons why. I admit that I’m wrong. Then I get insulted. I point out that I already admitted I was wrong. I get insulted again. Then a mod comes along and insults me because I have the temerity to defend myself. Ok, got it.
Hey listen everyone, this is the first time that I’ve ever been addressed to in this manner on these boards. And by the responses I’ve received to my 2 “unhappy-with-Bush” posts, I’m learning that now is not the time to get into this type of discussion. I admit that it angered me to hear someone bash my favorite ex-president at a time like this. Then I realized that I’ve done the exact same thing. So I apologize and take back what I said about Bush. We’re all on the same side here and being divided can only hurt us.
I’ve got a friend who is still missing and is presumably beneath the rubble. I’m going to spend some more time thinking about her instead.
Why do people keep typing this out and then posting it with a chortle as if it were clever? I’ve seen it 567,893,235 times.
We don’t any of us know anything about the motives of either the potus or the former potus. American citizens (and residents and cnn viewers and google searchers) all have our heads lodged deep, deep in our rectums in re any of this stuff. (Rectae?)
(You can’t put your head up your anus. The anus is just the outer structure. You can put your head up your rectum, if you like.)
First of all, Clinton is a resident of New York and his wife is a Senator. He has as much business visiting the wreckage as Libby Pataki, Laura Bush, and Mrs. Guiliani have. Okay, strike the last one.
I’ve thrown my fair share of criticism at Clinton, but I can’t this time. I thought his words were healing and respectful. He’s a former president, which lends an air of importance to the air – and that invigorates the workers and makes the grieving family members feel…well, acknowledged and important. He is also a great communicator. He is approachable. People respond to that. So if he isn’t disruptive (and really, can he help if the media hounds him?), if he makes people feel better, and if he constantly reiterates the need to support the president and stand united, then more power to him.
A question: If it were Jimmy Carter touring the wreckage, would you feel the same way?
Well, heck. I wasn’t wearing my Mod Shoes. And this forum isn’t my primary responsibility. So treat me as a normal guy and insult me back. C’mon, I can take it.
We New Yorkers LIKE Clinton. We’re all pinkos, and we all accept blow jobs from obliging zaftig Jewish girls. When I read your OP, “buttwipe” was the first thought that came to mind. I suppose I could’ve done better, but in cases like this I like to go with the primary impulse.
If Jimmy C was there, he would be there with a backhoe, clean out all the debris, sort it all out at the Fresh Kills landfill, and rebuild the Twin Towers, all in two hours. Wait, he’s not a Jehovah’s Witness. Make that three hours. Afterwards, then he’ll do a jam session with father Bush Ford and Clinton.
Man, I’m reading too much into Saturday night Live’s “Ex-Presidents”.
Ok all joking aside, this villification of Clinton has got to stop. It is going beyond fanaticism.
We don’t have to guess what Clinton would have done when faced with terrorist attacks, because he was faced with terrorist attacks. And he did almost nothing. His lack of effective action did not deter or prevent this weeks attack. He put no program in place to monitor terrorism or oppose it.
BTW Clinton weakened the CIA by introducing a rule that made it difficult to recruit the kind of people who might have provided adsvance knowledge. This rule has been widely commented on, and I have every expectation that Bush will undo Clinton’s unfortunate procedure change.
december, what are you talking about? Not hiring people for the CIA who would just as gladly bite our asses at the first opportunity? How do you think bin Laden and Sadaam Hussein got so much power as they have now? America propped them up, with the help of Europe, to fight enemies against our interests. Clinton rightly said no more of this nonsense.
JJ: That took class and courage to post. Apology accepted. And let me apologize as well for my…um…articulate and reasoned  comment as well. I think everyone’s tempers are short, nerves are frayed and we’re all under a lot of stress.
I’m not a huge Billy Graham fan, but he said something yesterda that choked me up to the effect of what you said “This can serve to bring us together or tear us further apart”. (Um…but however he said it, it wasn’t as banal as what I wrote)
