If you really cared about those web sites in the first place, you wouldn’t need bookmarks. Pulling them up would be as easy as remembering your mother’s birthday. You care about your mother don’t you?
I recently lost all my Netscape bookmarks as well. Did you have a situation where your machine lost power suddenly? The research I did indicated that sometimes this will kill the Netscape bookmarks file. It happened to me when my toddler nephew hit my computer’s power button.
I was able to recover quite a few of my bookmarks from my recent history, which was still intact. On the top bar, click on ‘Go’, and then ‘history’, and they’ll be there if that’s still intact.
You can back up your Netscape bookmarks by going to ‘Bookmarks’, ‘Manage bookmarks’, ‘tools’ and ‘export’. It will then copy a html copy of your bookmarks to ‘my documents’ or whereever else you chose.
I don’t post often, but I feel your pain on this. I hope this information helps.
I second this. Search your drive, the bookmarks are probably still there.
Firefox has a plugin that makes automated backups daily. I love it.
Man I love you 'Luci.
One time I found all of my bookmarks rearranged in random fashion.
What? Where? Which? makes grabby fingers
I have a bookmark file I’ve been nursing since I discovered the Intarweb as a Sweet Young Coed Thang. </Southern accent> It’s currently in at least three different places, but paranoia will out…
puts on tinfoil hat and sneaks away
A panel of experts has decided, 5 to 4, that this is a genuine statement of Boardly affection, and not a Desi Arnaz/Ricky Ricardo joke. Therefore, life systems will not be terminated.
Well, if we’re boasting, I use Safari with iSync and .Mac, so my bookmarks (and contacts, and appointments, and…) get automatically backed up on the internet every day. And I can access them from any internet-connected computer on the planet…
Bookmark Backup is at http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/ if you need it.
Bosda, have you heard of Del.icio.us yet?
Del.icio.us is a free “social bookmark” website where you can save all of your bookmarks to and have a personal webpage with all of them. I just started my delicious account a couple days ago so it’s rather anemic: del.icio.us/stpauler. The nice thing is that now my bookmarks are accessible from any computer with web access.
Are you using Windows XP, Bosda? If so, you may be able to do a System Restore. It’s quick and painless, and you’ll get all your bookmarks back. Just go to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Then just follow the prompts. Hope it works!
My computer has a lot of memory.
I, on the other hand, have less memory than a pocket calculator.
Let me second the idea of trying System Restore (or GoBack) and searching for the bookmarks folder. The bookmarks may be misplaced, not totally gone.
Oh and if you ever find them, make a copy and save it to disk. It just takes a minute to save you a LOT of hassle. I used to back up all my links to a single floppybut now I just copy my documents, address book and favorites to a CD-RW once a month or so.
You also may want to search your computer for a file called book*.htm or book*.html.
Go to Start>Search>Files or Folders. Your bookmarks are generally located in a file called bookmarks.html or a variation thereof. It could just be that for some reason your browser doesn’t know where to look anymore. Adware and spyware just love to mess around with your browser settings!
That’s MonkeyMan to you, Bosda Bosda Bo Bosda…
Awwwwwww…muffin.
You’ll use Bookmark Backup from now on, right?
No good.
No good.
No good.
WAAAAAAAAH!
