Metal Gear Solid 2 is another great cross-platform game.
On the PS2 exclsive front, Rockstar’s Manhunt is coming out next month.

I completely disagree with Halo being the best game ever, not even close. It’s a decent game, but certainly not deserving of the attention its received.
EllisDee, Halo is already released on PC and will soon be released on Mac as well. The PC version is in stores. (And I have it too.)
FISH
I bought Halo for PC today, and let me tell you… don’t buy it unless you have a really fast computer. My computer can run Quake 3, Serious Sam, and UT 2003 pretty well at 800x600 with FSAA, but I’m lucky to get 20 fps in Halo at 640x480 with all the details turned off.
I’ve heard even 3ghz processors have trouble running Halo.
Slow performance aside, I meant that Halo will never be available to another console platform.
Duderdude2, not everybody likes Halo. Not everybody likes any game. What would you rate as the best # games ever? (You pick the number…anywhere from best 1 to best 5.)
Reasons why Halo is rated so highly:
But not everybody digs the FPS format. My anecdote is that I was one of those people, and Halo was so good it made me like the genre. My favorite games of all time are Age of Empires, Starcraft: Broodwars, and Star Control 2. But I recognize the excellence of GT and Halo.
While that may be true, I (and many others) only appreciated this with the exterior environments. The large, repetitive indoor levels grated on my nerves.
Innovative? Perhaps. Groundbreaking? No. While it was a fairly clever feature, it was hardly revolutionary.
True, but it could have been better. The warping load zones were annoying and disorienting.
Very true, but it’s not the first time.
I completely disagree. While parts of the Campaign mode may be superb, a lot of it isn’t. Mainly the aforementioned repetitive environments. Does the Library ring a bell? One of the worst levels I’ve ever played.
I completely concur.
Anyways, I can see how you’d be impressed by Halo if you weren’t a huge fan of the genre and perhaps hadn’t tried many other first person shooters. I, myself did enjoy Halo, but thought it could have been so much more.
All fair points. Especially the repetitive levels. (Hopefully that will be less true in the sequel.)
The appearance of the Flood was a seminole event in FPS campaign design. It raised the bar of narrative storytelling in campaign mode in general.
The library is one of my favorite levels to replay. But in fairness, it was my least favorite level the first time through.
You sound like a FPS kind of guy. As a guy who doesn’t know much about the good ones in recent years, what would you recommend for me? I don’t much care which platform…if the best are for PS2 or GameCube, I’ll rent one.
Well, I suppose I’ll throw in my $.02
I own a PS2, used to have a GC, and will soon be getting an X-box. I personally didn’t like the controllers of GC.
I find more single player games I’m interested in playing on PS2, but I think X-box has more multi-player (including linking, a big plus for me) games than PS2.
I like PS2’s controllers better.
It seems to me (my impression only) that X-box loads faster.
Storage is HD for X-box, Memory card for PS2 (X-box also has memory cards you can buy for portability.
I think I can notice a difference in graphics between the two, with X-box being better.
I like Sm:)e’s advice. If you have some friends. Get what they have so you can share games.
