I’m fine, but I’m in the south-east.
Wow, Amazing so few people were killed. Reminds me of an argument I got into about whether or not a propane container would explode (versus just burning). Looked like an explosion to me.
I walked out of my apartment yesterday afternoon in Stonegate and thought, “This is a nice fally day, cool, with the smell of burning leave–that’s not leaves.” Yes, you could smell it all the way down by the lake (and, as it later turned out, at Kiplng as well). I didn’t see any pillars of smoke on the near horizon though, so the fire must have been out by then (around 4:30 PM). True, the clouds were low and it was misty in places, so that may have hidden things.
100 houses ‘uninhabitable’, mostly due to asbestos. (Asbestos, as opposed to being blown to pieces?). Turns out that the Bombardier aircraft plant just north of there was damaged as well.
So… who thought it was a good idea to put a NEW propane distribution centre next to an existing residential area?
Only in the last couple of years did they remove a propane farm from a residential section of my area. I think the huge junk of metal that was hurled over 500 meters says it all. It didn’t make the news here at all.
How scary for everyone nearby. And the poor firefighter that died, I feel so bad for his family.
We had a chemical plant explode near me two years ago, rather exciting stuff until everyone you know is present and accounted for.
I shudder to think what the casualty list would have been like if that propane yard had cooked off at rush hour.

Mnementh and I are good - we’re out in Scarborough, quite a ways away from the blast.
