I’m not sure who it was here who said “Fireball Whiskey is really good”, but damn your hide.

I like to mix some with hot chocolate. So good.
I got a letter yesterday. Well, actually, my 4 month old baby son got a letter yesterday. It was from our insurance company. You see, last week, my son was admitted to the hospital for observation after he was having real trouble breathing and was diagnosed with RSV. I mentioned this earlier. The letter from the insurance company states that his admission to the hospital would not be covered because he was not severely ill because his vitals were stable during his stay in the hospital. I have multiple issues with this.
I know I need to appeal. But this is stress I did not need. My baby is still wheezing, btw. His doctor says that it might linger for a bit.
slalexan, I have nothing to add to your righteous rant, except that my son was admitted to the hospital for RSV when he was 3 weeks old and it was really, really scary. He was there for about a week and spent much of that time in an incubator where we couldn’t touch him. I’m so sorry you are having to go through that, even if it sounds like things are on the mend. FWIW, he did make a full recovery and is now a happy and healthy 32-year-old, so this too shall pass… Still! Hang in there.
Get some sleep when you can, and when you have your wits about you, slam that motherfucking insurance company with all the righteous indignation a mama bear can muster! You WILL get it sorted out to your satisfaction. In the meantime, ignore it and tend to your little one - and yourself.
Yeah I doubt they have any justification for their decision. I believe that insurance companies pull this kind of thing in the hope that the person will just roll over and accept it, because a lot of the time they do.
Fuck health insurance companies that promote themselves as being all about your health and wellness, but balk when it’s time to actually pay for things. That’s pretty much all of them, I know. Having to appeal the insurance company’s decision seems to have become a “normal” part of healthcare now…my mom goes through this every year for 3D mammography. Fortunately, the place she goes to is very familiar with this issue, and they help with the refiling.
I would give them hell for sending notices of declined coverage to a baby, too. If things drag on long enough, that’s the sort of thing that consumer advocates on the local news seem to enjoy investigating.
Hope the little one feels better soon!
Google pushed an update to my phone, and now the lock screen clock looks like this:
09
08
Who the fuck reads a clock like that? And there doesn’t seem to be a way to make it be normal.
My Wifes phone shows time like that. I think it defaulted to it. She really isn’t into trying to change things herself and hasn’t asked me to fiddle with it. I guess she’s used to it.
It would really annoy me though.
I downloaded an app for an alarm and timer and my home screen has a regular looking digital clock on it - 9:08
Not sure if it was the app that changed it You might want to give that a shot.
Yes, I hate it! And so far I haven’t figured out any way to change it either. Maybe if enough of us complain about it we’ll get an option to do so in a subsequent update.
I have an Android phone and sometime this week my clock updated. Now when an alarm goes off, instead of being able to swipe across the middle of the screen to turn it off, there is now just a thin bar across the bottom that I have to swipe across. It’s a smaller target for bleary-eyed me to hit at 6 am. I want my old alarm screen back dammit!
Oh crap! I haven’t had the alarm go off since the update. That will suck.
Oh, update on the desk: I ended up talking to a representative in my area with Habitat for Humanity Restore, and they’re willing to take the desk (and some other furnishings) as long as I can move them outside or into a garage. Nice!
Yay! Our Restore takes a lot of stuff other places aren’t so interested in, though it seems they’ve drawn the line at electronics. We had a perfectly good 3-in-1 printer we wanted to donate but they said no to that one.
My wife’s aunt was killed a couple of days ago by an impaired driver.

We have so many questions. She never went anywhere on her own, let alone late at night while it is raining. And why did she get out of her car? And we’ll never know the answer.
At least the cops have the asshole that killed her.
Shit. That’s terrible. But I’m glad they made an arrest.
I’ve wanted to see the Northern Lights all my life.
There’s a solar electric storm this weekend, and they’re supposed to be visible waaaayyy down further south than usual - including all of Michigan - but it was cloudy/stormy as fuck around here last night, and looks like the same for tonight.
I donwanna die before crossing off my biggest bucket list item, dammit!
Despite living in the Great White North, I’ve never seen the Northern Lights. It seems to be clear today so I may pop out tonight and have a look, but I don’t expect to see anything! I’m beginning to think that Northern Lights are an old indigenous myth invented to confuse the White Man.
Depending on where you are you’ll have to stay up very late or get up very early. The forecast is for activity from about three to five AM in the mountain time zone. I’m up around five so will look out my north facing window if I remember tomorrow morning.
My gf went to Iceland, in part to “see the lights”. Turns out the week before she arrived was great for them, but her week there was nothing.
She’s using that as an excuse to go back.
