I need a list of all the Zip codes in the USA as well as the associated town, like a tab delimeted text file will be fine, anyone know where I can get such a thing, and is there perhaps someone out there with software that maybe able to do a export for me?
Try checking with Google. http://www.google.com “zip codes list” maybe?
spent hours there already
Check the local post office. They have a two-volume set.
I did spot a company offering a file much like you are looking for - http://www.zipinfo.com/ has files for download - but they are charging for them. The prices aren’t too bad if you just need to use a single download on one computer - but the prices go up if you need updated files (quarterly or yearly updates are available), or if you need to use the data on several machines within an organization.
I would guess that the pricing model here indicates that a file of the sort you are looking for may not be available for free, but I haven’t done an exhaustive search to know for sure. I did try a quick look at the Postal Service site (www.usps.com), and I did not find what you are looking for immediately available for download. A more careful look might yield better results.
Good luck.
We have a neat little book in our office that we use to look up zip codes. You can find in on Amazon for $18. I’ld give a link, but not sure if that’s allowed.
Here’s the name: 2001 Complete US ZIP - Area Code Directory: 3-way easy lookup for all US ZIP codes and area codes
Hmmm… could it possibly be that…, maybe… just per chance… the USPS may have this info? quote: For more information on ZIP Codes please call the toll free ZIP Code Information number at 800-275-8777.
And if you follow sailor’s link, and click on the zip code faq, you get this rather relevant tidbit:
Pretty lame in my opinion, since providing the text list wouldn’t actually cost them anything.
No, but remember that the USPS doens’t get any tax subsidies any more. They’re a self-supporting government-owned corporation. So they do need to watch their bottom line. If there’s enough demand for this info, then I’m glad it’s keeping stamp prices down.
I emailed you a zip code file with corresponding cities and states. Hope it helps.
