Way back in 1967 the first ever global satellite TV broadcast, called Our World, was held. It went out to 24 countries and 400 million people watched.
It consisted of a montage of clips wherein each country had a few minutes to show what was the best thing in their country. After an hour or so of increasingly dull clips consisting of Bulgarian donkey collectors and Peruvian elbow lickers it finally arrived at the British section.
The camera opened on a shot of George Martin seated on a chair who, gesturing to his right, said simply “Cue the Beatles”. The camera panned right to the sound of the opening of the French National Anthem until it arrived on The Beatles who went into “All You Need Is Love” (with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Keith Moon, Marianne Faithful and others joining in the chorus).
How cool is that?
