To be fair, haven’t a lot of cops said they’ll sit on their hands and refuse to do their job whenever anybody tries to hold them accountable for their own actions? I can definitely see some areas’ statistics tick up a bit because their local cops wanted to “teach everyone a lesson” and “let them do their jobs” without such pesky things as oversight and rules.
And anyway, you’re being too hard on the post you’re replying to. Since the January riot failed in its intended purposes of overthrowing the government and murdering its top officials, that means that it’s completely irrelevant, really. Why are we still talking about it?
Well they can go fuck themselves. Most white evangelicals, I’d bet my life savings, also don’t want to live in a racially diverse country. Well fuck them, they do live in one. Feel free to find another one, evangelicals, if this one isn’t pleasing you.
I do try to phrase it . . . differently, but there is this underlying disappointment in those who SAY they are the most devout believers. One is ringing the bell more later.
Regarding what Republicans say, they assume that the military response would be on their side. I think that is not true. Bubba bringing his deer gun up against a tank would be fun to see.
I think most individuals would prefer discussion over violence, but have come to the conclusion that the other side is not interested in discussion.
Let’s look at the topline…
Here’s an interesting question.

That’s a good indicator that it’s not quite as bad as it seemed. But that’s not the question in the headline. This is:

I also think you should look at other questions under 34.

By 34b. we can reasonably infer that in all likeliness a sizeable portion of that 30% of Republicans are totally wacko, way down the rabbit hole.
I don’t understand the outrage. If we go back to high school civics, we learned that our country started with a revolution and our Declaration of Independence talks of a right and duty of people of people to cast off government that is destructive to personal freedoms.
So to say that it “may be necessary” as opposed to “likely” or “nearly certainly” necessary seems like a throwaway line there. I might have answered “yes” to that question, not just today but at any time in U.S. history.
Maybe I’m overthinking the question, but are 70% of Republicans saying that despite the entirety of the history of mankind with uprisings and revolutions that they are so absolutely certain that it will not happen ever again such that they should dismiss any possibility that it “may” happen?
30% of Republicans (and 15% of all respondents) picked “Mostly agree” or “Completely agree” when asked,
“How much do you agree or disagree with […] the following? […] Because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country”
That is the point of the headline. The point I was making is that the 15% of respondants who think true patriots may have to resort to violence are probably the same 15% who think the country is run by Satan-worshipping pedophiles who run a sex trafficking ring. As indicated by this question,
“How much do you agree or disagree with […] the following? […] The government, media, and financial worlds in the U.S. are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who run a global child sex trafficking operation.”
the jist is that about 1/3 of Republicans are willing to publicly admit that violence to stop multiculturalism is acceptable.
They may not have said it outright but that’s what this question means. democracy empowers multiculturalism, so now the gop is declaring war on it.
we are reverting to Jim crow where terrorism and dismantling of democracy to block multiculturalism are mainstream views.
Fwiw it’s been found that many capitol rioters came from counties with fast growing non white populations.
in his initial findings, detailed in an op-ed for The Washington Post, Pape determined the rioters to be 95 percent white, 85 percent male, middle and upper middle class, and — significantly — to hail mostly from counties where the white population is shrinking fastest and the nonwhite growing most aggressively. Such counties were six times more likely to produce rioters than counties where demographic change was least dramatic, a disparity that held even when controlled for various variables.
I don’t doubt that more Republicans than Democrats think violence may be necessary to achieve their ideals.
However, the way the question was framed in this poll (the reference to “true American patriots”), it seems designed to have a particular appeal to Republicans/conservatives.
If the statement had read “Because things have gotten so far off track, oppressed peoples may have to resort to violence in order to save our country”, I wonder what groups would have most been in agreement.
Multiculturalism wasn’t part of the question at all. I think it’s most likely that the people who agreed patriots may have to use violence to save the country, are the same people who agree the country is run by Satan-worshipping pedophiles with sex-trafficking operations. 15% agree on both questions, if you agree with the latter the former is quite reasonable, bada bing, bada boom.
Your theory requires me to connect more dots, and more distant dots. Such as,
because U.S. capitol rioters come from towns with dwindling white populations, their decision to riot is motivated by disdain for / fear of multiculturalism;
assuming the respondents to the survey who agreed ‘patriots may have to resort to violence to save our country’ share the same rationale as the rioters who actually resorted to violence (despite only 9% of survey respondents saying there was ever a time they thought thought violence was necessary to save the country)
That wasn’t a homicide. That was someone fucking around and finding out.
Really, it’s a huge surprise that there weren’t dozens killed by the police. Seems “just obey the police” really only counts for some folks, for some odd reason.
Likely to generate the maximum possible clickbait.
That’s what bothers me here, is that the “need” for constant Internet clickbait is driving the divisiveness. Need to be terrified or outraged today? Don’t worry, we’ll manufacture a poll to do just that. THAT is what concerns me, the profit drive behind the encouraging of hatred and divisiveness.
