I’ve only heard “Poker Face”, but the refrain (especially when she’s singing “Can’t read my, can’t read my”) just screams 80’s to me. That bit sounds to me like Thompson Twins (“Hold Me Now”, perhaps). The melody’s also close to “You Belong to the City”.
I’m a huge fan and she sounds a lot like early Madonna to me- but a better singer. Where you could tell Madonna was limited, you can tell Gaga has more range.
She’s knowingly ape-ing early Madonna in musical style (listen to “Eh, Eh” and watch the video, she parodying 8os pop) but has legit music chops to do it.
That’s actually a friend of mine that posted that up, who went to NYU with her.
It seems inevitable that, if it involves someone who can actually sing, they sounded better before they became famous. I remember hearing Brittney Spears as a kid on Star Search, and I remarked “If she sounded like that now, I might actually listen to her.”
I unfortunately can’t answer the OP, because I can’t remember what her voice sounds like all modified. I just remember not being impressed.
