I heard or read somewhere that the creators of the Brady Bunch wanted to keep their options as open as possible regarding the casting of the show. Thus, they had someone write an alternate version of the opening theme song in case they decided to go with brunette females and blond males. Just wondering if anyone heard anything definite about this possibility and, if the lyrics actually exist, what they are.

For starters the song was written by the show’s creator, the indefatigable Sherwood Schwartz. I know there were plans to hire professional song writers to come up with a theme but in the end they went with the Schwartz.
The only lines in the song that refer to hair color (and texture) are:
“All of them had hair of gold, like their mother’s.
The youngest one in curls.”
Not too much of a challenge. I would go with:
“All with hair as black as coal, like their mother’s.
The youngest one in curls.”
I think I might take the apostrophe out of “mother’s” while I was at it.
The apostrophe belongs there. Like their mothers would be a plural indicating more than one mother. “Like their mother’s” is just short for “like their mother’s hair.”
You could say “like their mother.” if you preferred.
