Alternative to iTunes for downloading podcasts?

Apple no longer supports the iPod Classic, which is where I store all my stuff. Using iTunes to update my podcasts has been getting progressively tougher and tougher, and I can’t even get some podcasts that I actually pay for thru it anymore.

Today when trying to update as best I could, I got an unhelpful notice that I lacked the apps needed to connect with them. I somehow managed to update a few of my 'casts anyway but it was a long and tedious process.

iTunes Help is anything but helpful. Their only response has been that they no longer support my device and I should upgrade.

While I have a smartphone, it’s issued to me by my employer, and as such is not where I want to store anything personal. So I won’t be putting podcasts there.

Any advice on where I can go online to get my podcasts uploaded to my antique device?

Mac or Windows?

Windows

OK, I’m out…
I was going to suggest running an older version of the OS in a virtual machine. Easy to do under OS X.

Try GNUPod or EphPod

Thanks. I’ll give those a try
