Late notice, I know, but Alton Brown’s Brined Turkey episode is on tonight at 9:00 (eastern). I’ve made this for the past two years and it’s just great. It’s not as hard as you might think, especially if you watch him do it. I’m taping it tonight, and saving it.
I have a big orange bucket from Home Depot that I use for brining my 20-pound turkey. Make sure you keep it somewhere cold!
The turkey turns out very moist and flavorful. It’s not salty at all. My mother was sure it would be horribly salty after soaking in a salt brine, but it isn’t.
It even stays moist for days in the fridge, making for yummy juicy leftovers.
If you’re on Turkey Detail this year, give this a try. It’s definitely worth the extra effort.
