Aly Raisman. After seeing her pose in SI, I’d like a taste of that!

I don’t really care what she does personally, but I think she’s doing womankind a huge disservice with this act*. So I’m pittin’ that bitch!

Yea, yea, yea… empowerment. Whatever. By posing nude, what she’s doing is reinforcing the idea that women are sex objects; objects to be desired and fantasized about. It’s these stupid fantasies that help reinforce a pervert’s desire to do the perverted shit they do.

I would posit that any woman who does this is cheapening herself and contributing to this overly sexual view of women. For her to have just been one of these objects, this action seems very short-sighted.

Oh, and there’s also the fact that SI is using her tight, toned, hot, sexy, wonderfully naked body to sell mags. Gettin’ rich off the tits ! Is she really so proud of that?

*I’m not going to link to the article in Sports Illustrated, b/c my sensational post title has done enough damage. But here’s the link to her response to other critics, such as myself : Aly Raisman responds to 'devastating' accusations of hypocrisy for SI swimsuit issue – Chicago Tribune

Is…is this Poe’s Law?

Or something else?

You’re being sarcastic, right?

It is her body, btw. She should be able to do what she likes. Did you see the Olympic opening and the island guy ( I forget what island) shirtless and all oiled up. He was applauded and praised for that. I as a woman enjoyed it, but thinking of raping or assaulting him did not enter my mind.
When is it gonna be alright for women to dress (or undress) in any manner they like without being deemed a sex object?? Objectify-ing is in the mind of the beholder, don’t blame it on the woman because a man has a dirty mind. Double standard!

Maybe she should be wearing a burka?

How dare she tempt you like that? Who does she think she is, a citizen of the United States or something?

At times I was being sarcastic, to (attempt to) make a point. So I’ll condense it down to this statement; I would posit that any woman who does this is cheapening herself and contributing to this overly sexual view of women. For her to have just been one of these objects, this action seems very short-sighted.

No sarcasm. This statement is sincere.

I’m not tempted. I’m happily married. And she’s too young. What would we talk about after sex? Perverts?

From what I’ve seen, no, she was not posing nude. And even if she was she still enjoys (or should enjoy) the freedom to not be molested by her trainer/doctor whatever that guy was. Does this *really *require explanation?

Men make money off of their bodies. If they’re seven feet tall, they make millions playing basketball and, if they’re built like a coke machine with a head, they make money from being professional football players. Why can’t women make money off of their bodies? Beautiful women are desirable as models and actresses, and businesses are willing to pay good money for them. What’s the problem?

It’s the good 'ole double standard that stems from the Madonna/whore complex that so many men seem to have. They want their wives/sisters/daughters to be Madonna, but they fantasize about what’s totally opposite. Thus, THEY create the market, not the women who satisfy it. Yet, they criticize the WOMEN, not themselves.

Sorry, but I’m not buying the self-righteous outrage. It smacks too much of hypocrisy.

Do you believe the same is true of Ezekiel Elliott, Javier Baez, or Julian Edelman, all of whom posed nude in the 2017 Body Issue of Sports Illustrated? Did this cheapen them and contribute to an overly sexual view of men?

The message seems pretty clear to me. She’s saying that she doesn’t object to sexuality per se, but that she’s the one who chooses when and how she’s going to be sexual. Now, a lot of folks wouldn’t have chosen this way to make that statement, but I don’t think the statement itself is misguided or hypocritical.

Holy misleading thread title, batman.

I think more women should pose nude. Men, too. And all kinds of bodies: young, old, pretty, ugly, fat, thin, etc. As long as such poses and promotion of same are consensual.

It’s just a human body. There is nothing intrinsically good or bad about it, only desirable or undesirable in the eye of the beholder. The hang-ups people have over naked human flesh are beyond absurd; at worst, such religious and/or cultural indoctrination enables others to exert a measure of control over people. If there was more nudity, it would lose its ability to shock or shame, while retaining its power in selected cases to stimulate the procreative instinct. A double win.

Wow… I really lit-off a shitstorm. I hope I can keep-up.

Sure, the men are cheapening themselves, too. But I’m not concerned about that. Men aren’t regularly exploited like women are. Also, the men are showing off their bodies so people will think they’re hot, not make some wholesome statement about the sanctity of manhood.

Aly’s not choosing when to be sexy. She may have felt sexy the day(s) she did the shoot. But the men who buy the mag are building the fantasy and taking her sexiness to THEIR definitions. It’s out of Aly’s hands.

She’s taking back control over her life and her body. Good for her.

I get that Larry, I really do. But I think there’s a larger picture here. That’s what I’m trying to get to. Agreed that my sensational OP didn’t set a very objective stage.

True, she may have had an earring on :). And no, I don’t need that point explained to me. Maybe my point should be explained to HER, though.

…thanks for clarifying. You are a grotesque disgusting excuse for a human being. I’m glad you cleared that up.

Joking about Raisman’s sexual abuse? Pathetic.

Yes, I’m sure that’s what she really needs. Some man explaining sexual harassment and abuse to her.

So the fuck what? She’s not a princess or a crystal statue. She’s a 23-year-old woman who - guess what??? - is showing off her body so people will think she’s hot. She’s allowed to have that; why shouldn’t she be?

Being sexy - even being sexual - is not inherently cheap or degrading. Aly Raisman has the right, same as Zeke Elliott or Javier Baez, to be and feel sexual. Drawing a line between that and having her fucking doctor shove his fingers in her vagina and pretend it was medical treatment is hideous and patronizing and gross. In your OP, the fact that Aly Raisman was a victim of sexual assault means, I guess, that she should - on top of all the other pains and indignities she’s suffered - also have to sacrifice her right to be a sexual being. That’s gross, and you should feel bad for thinking it.

Missed this line. Yes, I’m sure this young woman, who has literally traveled all over the world and won Olympic Gold Medals while meeting with some of the most famous and accomplished people on earth, would just have nothing of interest to say to a thinker as advanced as yourself.
