I love tabasco and other shelf sauces. So much I occasionally chug these right from the bottle. Steak sauce, cider vinegar, worchestershire, occasional soy, pickle juice are other standard items I consume also. My question is: Are there others like me in this world or am I alone? I haven’t suffered any ill effects, but do occasionally get heartburn mainly from other stuff like spaghetti sauce. I’m not trying to set a record for eating the hottest stuff.
Should I consider counseling, therapy or rehab?
I like spicy and acidic sauces but cider vinegar right from the bottle is a little much. Possibly your bodies acid/base balance is a little off and you need to compensate with your diet.
I’ve been known to drown my food in soy sauce and occaisionally finish off the remains from a jar of pickled okra. Not quite straight from the bottle, but I hear ya.
Your body tells you what it wants, and astro might be onto something with the acid/base balance, or it could be a mineral deficiency. We won’t diagnose ailments on the board, but let me ask, how’s the rest of your diet?
Age - if you are over 18 (or so) your body chemistry should be stable. Under that, god knows…
Blood chemistry - an internist could have a field day, if you’d pay for it.
How long have these tasted good? Sudden onset could be reason to see a doc. A salt defiency was the tip-off for my mother’s diagnosis of inop lung cancer. Just to cheer you up.
When I was a little kid I used to scrape all the salt off my pretzels and save it for after I’d eaten the bread part. I’d end up with this huge pile of salt, which I’d suck up with a straw. I remember it tasting so good, but now I can’t imagine it would be anything but disgusting. Maybe I had a salt deficiency as a kid? Who knows?
