Am I an unwitting libertarian?

Remember, for every example, there’s a counter-example. But that’s just nit-picking. And remember, under lib’ism, if you’re not happy with UPS, go to one of their competitors. Pretty easy, no?

You can be a Libertarian and support the “nationalization” of the US Postal Service, after all, Art. 1, Sec. 8(8) of the U.S. Constitution provides that the government establish a post office and post roads. Although, you should probably push for privatization of the USPS, just to maintain street-cred with your fellow Libertarians.

There’s a problem with what I understand as the Libertarian ideal. While I agree it would be nice if the government left industries private and only interfered when laws were broken - the fact is that many companies are run by unethical jerks who are very good at hiding what they do. So while I love the ideal of hands-off capitalism, my practical side tells me that half the CEOs in the country would unfairly take advantage of the system if they could.

How does someone of the Libertarian view (I’m looking kinda at you here, Liberal) deal with monopolies? It’s bad to coerce the company to keep it from edging out its competitors, but once it does, it’s automatically coercing consumers to meet its terms, if the product is necessary. And it’s not as simple as a second company popping up to fill the gap of fairness, because some industries have some severe entry barriers.

A Software company that has a monopoly on a key product - it could take years for a new secondary company to produce a product to compete, years in which the first company has de facto control over the market.
