If this has been asked, forgive me.
If this is in the wrong forumn, at least I tried.
Whenever I register at a new website, I use my AOL.com address for mail. I don’t mind giving it out. It isn’t usually that hard to delete the spam/offers that accumulate in a day’s time. No worse than throwing out the useless credit card applications that I get in the mailbox every day. No big deal.
Since we all went to Bbboy, I feel that I am getting twice(three times?) the spam-mail that I received previously. Am I wrong? I could be.
Please, please! This isn’t scientific, and I don’t want to indict Bbboy wrongly. I may have been surfing sites lately that caused me to get more mail. It’s just a feeling.
Thanks for the help.
Bib If this is not the right place to put this, I’m sorry. I thought it required a factual answer which might have been of interest to more that a few users.
I don’t have proof that the reason I got the spam was by registering at Bbboy.com. However, the day after I registered there, I opened my yahoo email (the one I use to register in public stuff like here) and had about 7 spams in my bulk email box.
Prior to registering at that sight, I’d never seen anything show up in there. However, I’ve not had anything end up in there since, either.
My first instinct was, however, that it had to do with registering over there.
But, hey, count your blessings. I heard on another MB about people ordering the My So Called Life DVD boxed set from a particular vendor and then suddenly getting bombarded with kiddie porn spam.
I haven’t been getting any more spam at the address I used for BBoy, either.
But we do get tons of it at the address the Better Half uses for the various Palm Pilot/tech geek sites he visits. How many of those have you been on lately? It’s the demographics the advertisers like.
I notice your e-mail address is in your profile over there, so I suppose it’s possible some unscrupulous harvester unaffiliated with BbBoy could have gotten you address that way. You can remove your address from that profile by logging in over there, clicking on “User CP” then on “edit settings” then setting “Show Email Address?” to No.
On this message board, you have to click on an extra link from the profile to get the e-mail address (“click here to email samclem”). This discourages harvesting of e-mail addresses.
