Am I the only one who doesn’t have any (internal) problems eating White Castle?

I thought my earlier post would settle the craving, but it didn’t. No White Castles here, but I see from the web site you can buy them in the frozen food section of the supermarket. Has anyone tried theses, and if so, how do they compare with the fresh one from the griddle?

I grew up around them and that’s pretty much how I feel too.

The really sad part is that both my wife and ex-wife are/were junkies so I’ve too often been forced into them.

I get them occasionally (when I can find them, which is difficult). They’re usually pretty expensive. Not quite as good as from the restaurant itself, but an acceptable substitute.

In terms of microwave efforts at a complete sandwich, they are really pretty good. The worst part is, they don’t have any pickles on them. It’s important to get the cooking time just right, too. Yo may have to experiment a little.

I think WC gives people problems becaus of how oniony they are. They are cooked on a bed of onions then served with onions as well. Onions tend to be a culprit in digestive “episodes” post-meal.

The lack of pickles is also my biggest complaint about the frozen variety. And contrary to the “helpful” suggestions of my boyfriend, you can’t just slap a pickle on afterwards. White Castles embody all that is good and holy about bad fast food. To mess with the sacred order of ingredients is like asking for a one way ticket to hell.

Damn you all for talking about my favorite food. Now I am going to have to make the 2 1/2 hour trip to Columbus to get me some sliders with vinyl. And a vanilla milkshake. And some cheesesticks. And some onion chips. All of which I will eat without suffering any gastrointestinal distress. I love having an iron stomach. And I love me some White Castles (it says so on my bumper sticker :D).

They use a special tool.

sigh White Castles…distant childhood memory that you are.

I haven’t had any WC that you didn’t heat in a microwave in roughly 11 years. I don’t remember any stomach issues but it’s been a while.

I LOVED WC as a child and it only added to my bitterness in moving to California that there weren’t any around. (California also did not have Skyline Chili or any reasonable facsimilie so I was also forced to find my own way to make Cincinnati chili - although I just recently found out you can order Skyline off the internet. hehe) Luckily I learned to like California AND the microwave WC. You have to be really careful that you don’t let them sit too long after microwaving them or the bun can dry out and get really hard. There is a finesse to getting them done right.

Now I really want to be back east somewhere to have one. sigh Damn all of you! hehe

When I was in my teens and twenties, I could eat them and the only problem I’d ever have was room-clearing gas…

Now that I’m in my thirties, I get an IBS attack whenever I eat them. I haven’t had them in several years…

I eat White Castle regularly. It’s definitely the onions that cause gas and the other gastointestinal “effects”.

But my questions is: What the heck are onion chips? Are you talking about the onion rings? Because I’ve been to about 10 White Castles in New Jersey and have never seen onion chips on the menu.

If you’re in Ohio, I had no idea there was any place in Ohio that was 2.5 hours from a White Castle!

My recomendation would be to make them in the broiler with a little water to steam them. I think these instructions are on the box… gives you a burger much closer to the real thing.

Now there’s a thought! Perhaps the same steamer used for steaming veggies. It looks like I will have break my self-imposed ban of Albertsons and see if my local stores carries them.

I am in WV but I can look out my window and see Ohio. However, the closest WC to me is in Columbus which is 2 1/2 hours away. I would be a very happy woman if there was one any closer. I would save a hell of a lot on gas money.
