He’s married, I think. That doesn’t preclude him being gay, of course, but it makes it rather unlikely he’s come out of the closet.
I really never got a gay vibe off him – unless he was playing gay, of course, which he has done in several roles. Lots of his other roles have been kind of asexual – like Sky High, where he was just a goofy guy with no romantic or sexual componant.

It’s funny, because these old speculations throw me right back to my high school days, where being gay was forbidden and wrong, and I remember arguing over and over with classmates that not all of the Kids in the Hall were gay, just Scott was, and by gum, what the hell was wrong with that, anyway? (Coming from a not-too-convincingly-closeted bi girl, I don’t know if anyone was listening anyway.)
Dave and the other Kids are most definitely gay-friendly, with Scott being the only confirmed gay man (who fills me with both national and gay pride, despite being a (Canadian) woman married to a man and living in the US currently - either of those subject to change if things go horribly wrong somewhere) - there aren’t too many other men I can think of off the top of my head who are quite so secure in their sexuality in the public eye. They can all play convincing women at the drop of a hat; or gay men, straight men, rednecks, metrosexuals, or common fools. They sell the character no matter what, and don’t cheapen it by trying to look as manly as they can under the makeup; when we need to believe they are women, they really seem like women. I adore the old sketches where Scott plays an elderly lady married to a gruff old man (Bruce), and her neighbour (Dave) “grieves” over her dead husband by enjoying the insurance money. They don’t look glamorous, they look real.
What were we talking about again? Oh, yes, Dave’s not gay, as far as I know.
But if he was, I would be genuinely surprised.
