I would say Brain Donors, but most folks haven’t even heard of that movie…
Slackers. Not to be confused with Slacker, the first movie by… ummm… the same dude who did Dazed and Confused. Slackers had Big Pete from “The Adventures of Pete and Pete”, the kid from Rushmore, and the HOTTT redhead from “That '70s Show”. It was marketed as a typical teenage-grossout-comedy, but was, in fact, cleverly disguised film noir.
I don’t know that I want to see it again, but, hey, it was a decent flick.
That would be Topher Grace.
Add me to the list of people who like The Frighteners and Mars Attacks.
I liked Darkness Falls. Really. It has the cornest villian this side of the blob, but other than that I liked it a lot. It even had good music during the credits.
I also thought that ** “Kung Pow”** was really funny!!
I also liked “The Last Action Hero”, “The Frighteners”, and I love "The 5th Element"
The hot redhead is http://us.imdb.com/Name?Prepon,%20Laura . Laura Prepon
Ah. Well, we all know without a doubt that not only did I not see the movie in question, but I am quite clearly a straight female.
Exorcist II: The Heretic

What can I say–I’m a John Boorman fan.
I’m kind of surprised about critics not liking “Rosencranz and Guildenstern are Dead”. I only saw it on video (and I think I’d seen it on stage before that), and I didn’t go into it with preconcieved notions. It was good.
Also there’s this film “Funny Bones” that I don’t think did very well in most of the country but for some strange reason was really popular in the small town where I grew up. It had Oliver Platt and Jerry Lewis among others. Kind of dark, but strangely intoxicating.
Hi, Dragonblink.
I thought Dude, where’s my car? was funny, but I can see why people wouldn’t like it. But what does anyone think is wrong with Rozencr & Guildenst? Or Last Action Hero?
imdb comments on Ishtar are amusing - they’re all ‘Hey, it was actually quite funny!’
PS. imdb says the sequal to
is going to be
. I think that’s just the perfect name for it, though most people assume the existance of a sequal is a joke (literally).
. . . because no one I’ve talked to has ever seen it, so no one can really like or dislike it, but I loved Romeo Is Bleeding. It didn’t make sense, and it was the sort of movie that critics like to spit on, but it had that great surreal quality and a truly awesome soundtrack.
Plus, I was a huge Gary Oldman buff at the time, so that didn’t hurt. And Lena Olin can whack me anytime, rowr!!!
Yes! I really liked Romeo is bleeding too. Just happened to see it on television years ago. Besides all the events during the movie, I was really touched by the sad ending.
I also liked Black Widow with Teresa Russel and Debra Winger. Good plot with a few surprises.
Speaking of the latter, I seem the only one with a particular fondness for Legal Eagles? Even though I don’t like Robert Redford, I found it to be a delightful little comedy. Still like to watch it for chuckles. I feel the same way about Working Girl with Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith. A thirds one in this category is Speechless with Geena Davis and Michael Keaton. Granted, neither of these is great, but they do leave me with a nice cozy feeling afterwards.
Top Secret!, a parody Elvis/WW2 movie by the Airplane! team and starring Val Kilmer seems to be universally detested and ignored, but I think it’s really funny, just as good as Airplane!
Going back a bit, there’s a really brilliant Dana Andrews film noir Where The Sidewalk Ends, which seems to be totally ignored in film books, but I reckon is better than most of the films from the time (e.g. They Live By Night, Double Indemnity).
I also agree with Joe Versus The Volcano, The Frighteners (even Fox is good), Grease 2 (which has exactly the same plot as Grease, except the genders are reversed) and Alien 3 (which may be slagged off, but established David Fincher’s career, and manages an amazing mood throughout).
I really liked the movie Dutch starring Ed O’Neill, and what’s ironic is that I only saw it after reading the LA Times review, which apparently was the only GOOD review it got! The movie tanked and became a running gag on Married with Children.
Also mentioned in this thread that I liked: Waterworld, Joe vs. the Volcano, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (I agree, that last one is a classic, no question.)
People didn’t like Orgazmo?? But thats my favorite movie! I also LOVE Kung Pow. And honestly every person I know loves the Fifth Element.
I don’t know what the critics thought, but everyone I know hates Vanilla Sky and I like it. I own it, even.
Saving Silverman is my all-time favorite movies. I just don’t think many people have heard of it, and that’s why it’s not more popular.
Super Troopers is awesome, too. I also love Out Cold, another little-known movie.
The Neighbors where John Belushi was the normal guy and Dan Akroyd was the crazy one. I used to watch it frequently, but have not seen it the last several years.
Surprised no one mentioned “Glitter” yet. (Unless all of you despise it). Everyone seemes to hate this movie but seeing it on HBO it is pretty good. How it got on the IMDB Bottom 100 I will never know.
Hate to be the “minority of one dissenter” here but I feel “Hudson Hawk” was a gigantic pipmle on the face of cinema. I REALLY hated it !!
Someone mentioned “Black Widow”. I thought the critics liked this movie and I sure do. Theresa Russell plays a great cahracter just dripping of class and sensuality.
“Top Secret” is possibly my favorite comedy movie. I generally find this movie has no middle ground with people’s reviews. Everyone I know either hates it or thinks it is hilarious - nothing in between. I believe Roger Ebert is a big fan of this movie.
Bob Nelson, John Turturo, and… some other guy doing a bunch of classic Marx Brothers scthick. Totally unoriginal, but since they’re literally stealing from the best, it’s still pretty funny. Plus, no lame musical interludes.
