The Reptilians! AIs and lizards, that’s what is out there. Oh; and the occasional Spawn of Yog-Sothoth. They’re the ones watching all that tentacle porn.
And what the hell are they even doing on the internet? Isn’t it a sin or something? Most things are. Shouldn’t they be in some back room flagellating themselves, hanging out in airport washrooms, or pestering some heathen? Oh, wait..
I believe in God and Christ, period. I base my beliefs on my personal anecdotal experiences. Whether you believe or not is inconsequential to me. At the same time, the entire world is invited to come to my door, ring the bell and tell me I am a fool; I still believe what I believe.
This does not mean that I fail to recognize that people who do not believe have reasons valid to themselves and their opinion is equally valid to them as my beliefs are to me.
I also recognize the possibility that I am wrong, but I don’t know that I am missing anything I find of consequence if I am.
What I do have an issue with is the idea that Christ’s message of peace and love have been used for centuries to torture and kill others.
The Bible tells me that being a homosexual is wrong and thus, I don’t do that. Whether others do or not is their business. I don’t tell homosexuals they are wrong, because I can’t say whether they are or are not. I can tell them what the Bible says. Where I have an issue is with militants and extremists on any side any where. A militant atheist that delights in being a dick with others’ beliefs is no better than a militant Christian who wants to torment others with their beliefs.
Anecdotes and personal testimonials sell worthless products. It’s great for marketing though, whether selling a product through info-commercials or some latest preacher or believers selling his wares. Great marketing has nothing in common with truth though, and it’s pretty much coincidental if they ever cross paths.
What each side considers good evidence is what separates us. Atheists don’t think nature’s laws go cuckoo because one thinks they can violate it at will. They demand good evidence. They realize and aren’t persuaded that gravity takes a vacation because someone says they can walk on water, part the Red Sea, or do other miraculous works because someone bothered to write it down thousands of years ago.
Take anecdotes and personal testimonials out of the equation, and religious folk wouldn’t have a good leg to stand on.
Please, as a favor, seeing as how you appear to be a nice guy, don’t. You certainly wouldn’t be the first to tell them; believe me, they know ALLLLLL about what the bible says, having heard it many many times before. Often shouted into their faces and written on big signs.
Yup. If you want to have sex with men … you’re gay! And if the only reason you’re not having sex with men is because the Bible tells you not to … you’re gay and repressed.
You’d be a lot happier if you just admitted you’re attracted to guys and found someone you love to settle down with.
Dude, you’re missing out on spending a lifetime with someone you truly love! How can that not matter to you?
Well, that’s weird. The bible tells you that being a homosexual is wrong, and thus you don’t do that? So, if the bible didn’t tell you homosexuality was wrong you’d be having same-sex relations?
Atheists are more vocal today than ever, thank goodness. How many of them would commit murder and other equally vile acts just short of murder in deference or promotion of atheism? I’d say not many, if any at all; being a dick, as you put it, is pretty much as far as an atheist will go. On the other hand, how often do Christians kill, maim, rape, subjugate, and discriminate in the name of their god? Oh yeah, every damned chance they think they can get away with it. A militant atheist may be an annoyance. A militant Christian is bloody dangerous.
Yes, Thursday is good. Please get everyone else in the world together and let’s try and get this done in one day…I do have to go to work the next day and all.
Clearly, I don’t have sex because I don’t have any inclination to do so. There are plenty of things that the Bible says are wrong that I do have plenty of inclination to do and those, I choose not to.
As for whether someone believes in their Islamic faith because of their own personal experiences, of course they do. I can tell others of what I have learned in life, but my primary responsibility is to live MY life. If someone chooses Islam, what am I to tell them? That they are wrong? I am making the best choice for me and that is good enough; they make their choice and it is equally valid to mine.
As for the things that some do in God’s name…I have seen some pretty awful things done. I believe what I believe, but I shake my head at those who are so lost to compassion that they can protest at a funeral and think they are doing right.

I see…my side = good, your side = evil. What is new with that? There, right there is the justification that every evil performed by extremists were based on. Christianity never killed a single person, Islam never killed a single person. Extremists wrapping themselves in misguided beliefs kill and that same extremism is quite apparent in atheism as in any other belief system.
Actually, no. Atheism isn’t a “belief system” like religion. It’s just a belief. If you don’t believe in God you’re an atheist. That’s the full doctrine of atheism, start to finish. There are no degrees of atheism, or atheist fundamentalism, or anything like that. All you have are some people who are more vocal than others.
As s a result, it’s really hard to use atheism as a justification for evil behavior. This is quite different from the complicated belief systems of the different religions. If you poke around long enough in the dark corners of Christianity or Islam or any other religion it’s not hard to come up with toxic ideas like “God hates fags.” or “Infidels must die.” Religion is great for giving people a rationale to behave like monsters. Because if you think that God is on your side, the ends always justify the means.
So let’s drop the false equivalences here. Atheism is not “just another religion” with all the baggage that entails. It’s a far simpler belief.
That’s because it is precious, and you do belive in some Invisible Guy in the Sky.
All God is, is a belief. A mental construct. Unfortunately, a great many people over a great many years have used this imaginary authority to press their beliefs on others, resulting in a great deal of harm.
No, you don’t see. It has nothing to do with my side/your side. It’s right versus wrong. If you don’t see the difference between killing thousands and discriminating against millions in the name of whatever your religion is, and mere criticism of it, then I’d say you’re hopelessly blinded by your faith. I didn’t say a word about Christianity killing people. I said that Christians kill, and maim, and rape, and subjugate, and discriminate, all in the name of their god, and I stand by that statement.
