Am I the only person on the Internet who believes in God?

…and I say that millions of people associated with plenty of things have killed lots of people. Plenty of Governments have fought wars rightly or wrongly (if there is a such thing as a right war). The KKK was responsible for many killings and yet you cannot paint all southerners for the killings.

In the end, religion itself does not lead people to kill. The fact is that people who would kill find a reason whether it be religion, racial hate or just plain greed.

In the end, I think if you were honest, you would admit that your dislike of religion began first and the justifications for doing so came second.

That’s typical; rather than blame religion, believers prefer to demonize humanity. In the end, people are always expendable to believers; it’s the Faith that matters.

When people go forth and kill and oppress people because their religion tells them to, yes their religion deserves blame.

Nonsense. Religion is a force of overwhelming evil in the world, spreading misery and injustice and death all everywhere it touches. There’s no need to “justify” condemning it, it is openly vile.

People would still kill without religion. I’d wager that fewer of them would however. Religion builds certainty and depends on ignorance. When you have an ignorant person who is utterly certain… watch out.

Disliking religion doesn’t need anything more than understanding that it makes factual claims with no evidence. Saying that Jesus died so I can live forever, is a factual statement. It isn’t an opinion.

Adamantly standing by factual statements without evidence isn’t what smart people should do.

Nor did I say that all Christians commit evil deeds, so your analogy doesn’t hold. To further the point I did make, however, and since you brought them up, ask a member of the KKK if they consider themselves Christians doing god’s work. I’ll wait while preparing to rest my case.

Oh yes it bloody well does. At least that is the reason given for it, by those who’ve committed the deeds. What planet are you living on?

I’m not talking about those who kill or harm for other reasons. I’m speaking solely about those who commit evil in the name of their religion and the false equivalence you attempted to make with atheism. Please stop deflecting.

And you would be absolutely incorrect in that thought. My dislike for religion is evidence-based, beginning with practices I personally witnessed as a child member of a Christian church, and culminating with my break from it in my teens. By the way, don’t call me a liar again.

Shouldn’t this be a poll?

No you’re not, by a long shot. But I sometimes wish you were.

Miguel Cervantes fought at the Battle of Lepanto.

If you’re ever in Barcelona, the Maritime Museum has a full scale replica of John of Austria’s galley.
