Am I the only person that likes "Degrassi, The Next Generation?"

I admit, despite my advancing age, and complete absence from the target demographic, I love this show.

I tune in fathfully.

I will suspend other Sunday evening activities to watch it.

I’m particularly interested in what’s going to happen with Emma being suspended from school, and Spinner swiping Jimmy’s DVD player.

I can’t wait to tune in.

Surely I’m not the only one?

Apparently you’re the only one. Enjoy!

“Spinner”?

And I though “Snake” and “Wheels” were bad.

“I have weird thing for girls that say, ‘aboot’.”

(Brodie)

This is a cultural icon you folks are insulting ya know.

Just because it’s a cheesy one…

I can’t help it. I LOOOOVE it!!

Right actor, wrong movie. That was Banky in Chasing Amy who had a thing for Canadian melodramas and girls who say “aboot.”

(I admit it: I almost made this joke.)

They have an ad for DeGrassi that concludes with the line, “If your life were a TV show, this would be it.” My 13-year-old always answers back something like, “No, it would be Pete & Pete” or “If it were, I’d change my life.”

We always switch to the National Geographic or Science channel when DeGrassi comes on.

It’s just you and Kevin Smith, Alice.

I love Degrassi! The old one and the new one. Though, the old Degrassi will always have a place in my heart. I mean, I grew up with it, it was gripping drama in that 80’s Canadian kinda way. And Spike was a hottie [a knocked-up hottie nonetheless].

The new one is watchable, but it reminds me too much of every other pre-teen show out there. Still, I watch it [because it has Spike on it still…who is now a grown-up hottie… heh]

Ok, I’ll confess…I started watching Noggin/The-N in the late spring when they began airing Daria. And I noticed commericals with a catchy tune for a show about British kids at a boarding school, so I started to watch 24seven. Then I accidentally taped Being Eve and started to watch that too. Eventually it didn’t feel right to not watch the other Monday night show too, so I began watching ** Degrassi, The Next Generation** too…<blushes> I never saw the orginal series, when the older characters were kids, but I sort of like this show. I like the other two noggin series better, though. Series about teens are my guilty little pleasure.

When I try talking back to the ads when they show up in the middle of my Daria viewing mode, my 13 year old sister gets all huffy (“If you don’t like it, quit watching!”) and attempts to throw me out of the room. Can I trade?

My life will never be that angsty. It wasn’t that angsty when I was 13. And I thought my middle school years were bad.

I do like 24Seven, though. Cute British guys that are actually my age…always a plus.

I lovethat show, although I think that Ashley and Paige both need to be slapped. I started watching it in November when they aired the big “Frank Sexual Disscussions” episode. Now I watch it just to see how Ashley will f**k up next. First Jimmy, then drugs, then fooling around with Sean, getting her life back together, THEN she screws Jimmy over again, Cuts her hair, and goes completely punk in a terribly, posery way. It amuses me to no end

Exactly. In some ways it’s nice for 20-somethings to be playing teens…

Aagghh! There is a ‘Degrassi, the Next Generation’?! I did not know that! Is it on PBS? I have seen Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High and the movie School’s Out (I think that’s what it’s called) where Joey gets a girl pregnant; he had been cheating on Caitlin.

Please tell me what channel/network it’s on. Thanks.

Noggin. It’s a digital cable channel (at least through my provider) that’s an off-shoot of Nick.

At least this canadian who obsessively watched the original series (Kids of Degrassi Street up to Degrassi Hight), shares some of your obsession with the new version.

I just haven’t really figured out which characters to like and which to want to shake yet.

Haven’t seen the new version, but I definitely want to shake some sense into Wheels. Didn’t he end up spending time behind bars for DUI and causing Lucy to end up in the hospital? It’s been a long time since I saw that movie School’s Out.

I love **Degrassi: TNG, TwentyFour 7 and Eve ** and when I can find it on the new cable we got and actually remember when they are on, *do not disturb me on the couch *

Though I think they are little adults in kids bodies handling kids stuff way better and not nearly as oh-whoa-is-me teenie fashion, I totally (and fer sure) wish this show was on when I was a kid.

Eve, I think, is one of the best girl-led shows out there. She is not exactly pretty ( a bit of a dork, really) but has self confidence and gawkiness that we all had at that age.

(And, on Twentyfour 7, I could boink Chris or Beans in a heartbeat. )
