I haven’t seen him on ESPN or anchoring the news but I have seen stories on several news programs about him being on news programs. ::rolleyes::
I’m sick of it, but that’s to be expected because I don’t generally like Will Ferrell and I HATED Anchorman.
But the fact is, even though Anchorman WASN’T really a big hit, the people who DID like it got into it in a big way. To use an analogy involving a movie I DID love, This Is Spinal Tap wasn’t a huge hit either, but those of us who loved it quoted it a lot, and formed a devoted cult.
Anchorman’s fans were devoted to the original, and have been looking forward to this sequel. The publicity for the sequel seems excessive, but why should I deny its fans their fun.
According to (film critic) Richard Roeper, the first Anchorman only did modestly well at the box office and didn’t become a huge classic until it hit the DVD market. The giant ad blitz is to try to make up for the box office revenue the studio feels it should have made the first time around.
Which still doesn’t mean they can’t over-do it; just repeating what I heard.
I was trying to find how much money this thing made so far. IT’S STILL HASN’T BEEN RELEASED YET!??!?
Mark me down as sick of hearing about it.
Overhyped. I too can’t believe it isn’t out yet.
I’ve seen the original movie, which has some very funny moments mashed together into an incoherent mess. The sequel will probably be more of the same. And Steve Carrell was by far the funniest thing in the first movie, and will likely continue to be for the second one.
$90 million on a $26 million budget seems like a pretty terrific return on investment.
LOUD NOlSES!!!
Not arguing but I assume they looked at the DVD sales after the fact and realized if all those people had bought tickets, it could have been a lot more than $90mil and much more fantastic return on investment.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they’re spending so much money on marketing that it must be a really shitty movie. Meaning of course that once the opening weekend is over; no one will be going to see this turd.
For what it’s worth, the only thing the ads really make me want to do is go listen to Grazing in the Grass because they use the opening riff in the ads and it’s an irresistibly fun song.
Rotten Tomatoes has it at ~75% fresh for both critics and audiences. So not a stinker even if not universally loved.
Will Ferrell’s comedy is silly and really not very good but it tickles me for some reason. Unlike Adam Sandler’s comedy which is silly and not very good and I can’t stand.
