Am I the only Republican here?

Exactly what the question asks. I consider myself an open-minded guy (as most of you can see by my posts on this board), and am ready for the hits I might take. But…am I the only Republican here?

It doesn’t affect my views on anything, but I am a registered republican. Had to pick one to get to vote in the primaries when I was 18 and just went with what my mom was.

Though I doubt that’s the sort you meant.

Hardly. There are quite a few, though the majority of them don’t come from the Paleolithic Wing of the party (though there are a few of those as well). If I try to name names, I’m going to either miss ones that are or name ones that aren’t, so I won’t.

What is this “Republican” you speak of?

I’m a registered Republican who looks at candidates from both parties, and sincerely wishes that the Dems would truly give me another choice.

Ummm…Lieberman?

There are a number of people here who would cop to being fiscally conservative, fewer but some who would cop to being socially conservative (anti-choice, anti-gay rights), but those people may or may not consider themselves Republicans. The conservatives are far outnumbered by the liberals. IMO most people on the Boards are moderate, trending to the liberal side. The lunatic fringe on both ends of the spectrum is also represented. The best way to figure out who is who, is just to hang out and read posts.

FWIW, I’m a fiscally conservative, socially liberal Republican.

Perhaps he means a choice that doesn’t have W’s skidmarks on his tongue…

Where’s Bricker when you need him?

Registered Republican but consider myself moderate slightly leaning towards conservative views, but I am Pro-Choice, Pro-People (Pro-Gay just sounds so… I don’t know, gay) and Pro-The Government Needs To Stay Out Of My Business.

Wow, almost like me except I am Pro-the Government Can Get in my Business All it Wants.

I couldn’t have said it any better!

There was a time when I could go either way, but it wasn’t in this century.

If you don’t mind my saying so, that’s a little surprising given that this is the first thread I’ve seen from you that isn’t about sex. You realize that if the goverment has it’s way, you may worry less about how to clean your sex toys and more about where to hide them, right?

Define Republican.

Do you mean simply your voter registration?

If someone thinks Bush is an idiot are they still Republican even though they favor abolition of abortion, supply side economics and an ammendment to ban flag burning?

If you try to define it beyond just registration, there is an entire spectrum of political, social and economic views that defy neatly compartmentalizing these things.

Personally, I couldn’t give one whit which party someone claims to support. What is their stance on the individual issues?

I mind nothing, but seven of the posts I started are about sex. Anyway, it is where my mind is usually focused.

When I say I don’t mind the government being in my business, I meant when it is stuff concerning ‘national security’. I do understand people’s point of views of ‘if they go there, they might go here’, ‘if they stop this, what’s next’. And I agree, TO A POINT. But when it comes to National Security, or stopping the ‘bad guys’ (Bill O’Reilly quote), I am all for doing what is necessary. I don’t want to hear (after the next possible attack), “If we were able to do this, it might not have happened”.

I DO KNOW that it is hard to draw a line between what is trampling on our rights and stopping the bad guys.

I am 100% pro-Freedom of Speech, whether it is burning flags (although I get mad watching it), or speaking against our country (I hate hearing it). I believe in the constitution, but am willing to lose some rights to protect our country.

Right, because at the very top of the government’s agenda is the criminalization of sex toy possession. But please clarify: What does this post have to do with the OP? Perhaps you were looking for a nice, full-bodied “criticize the government” thread; I believe there is a rotating selection in Great Debates and the Pit.

Jodi, I was responding to a specific statement by the OP, and he doesn’t seem to have minded. You feel free to seethe if you like though. That’s the beauty of a free country.

I am a Republican. There, I said it. :stuck_out_tongue:
I am Pro-Choice, Pro-gun, Pro-gay marriage, anti-big gov’t micromanaging people’s lives, anti-non-seperation-of-church-&-state, I am against flag burning and against any law to make it a crime. I am for the Gov’t being there as a saftey net for those in need; I am against a welfare state. I HATE a Socialist goverment nearly as much as a Theocratic one. I hate what the media has become and love the free press.
I’ll no doubt think of more after I hit submit.

Not seething; sorry if I left that impression. I just find it mildly annoying that on this Board it is literally impossible to post anything about Republicanism – even a simple inquiry as to who is or isn’t – without someone posting something that is critical of the Republican party, George Bush, or the gubmint. In this case, that someone happened to be you.
