Am I the only Republican here?

I would hug you if I could.

I was a registered republican for some years, till the 2004 presidential election, when switched so I could vote in the Democratic primaries. Having to do so pissed me off mightily, but not as much as Mr. Bush’s policies do. I want a party that actually espouses the virtues of limited government and fiscal responsibility. The party left ME.

Skald, annoyed with President Bush but still feeling obliged to refer to him with respect and, if someone tries to assassinate him, stop 'em.

No. You want lonely? Try being a republican in your twenties. Besides my kid brother, I know all of two others in real life. We’re waiting for our friends to smarten up.

The truth hurts, don’t it?

So, you happy with the current administration’s fiscal policies?

wave YooHoo! Over here!

It amazes me how many of my 20 something friends beliefs agree 75-90% with the Republican party, but they refuse to vote for Republicans. I don’t get it. At all. Dems love their social services, but we never get any social services, and likely never will, and we all accept that as fact.

I would vote for a Democrat for president, if there was one I could trust. Has GWB been proven wrong? Yeah, but he believed he was right and time proved him wrong. His basic philosophy has never changed. Dems agree wholeheartedly with what is popular, however often popular changes. The Democratic party lost my vote with gun legislation. They continue to lose it everytime they argue about ‘slippery slopes’ and blaming the current administration for all the evils in the world. And every time Hilary Clinton and Ray Nagin and any of the other idiot Democrats start spouting off about chocolate cities and how worthless and lazy 20somethings are. Yeah, a white 20something is really going to get behind that (incoherent) message. Sometimes GWB’s passions are not in alignment with mine, but he is at least passionate about something other than his political career and reputation.

I’ve said too much…now I’m going to get kicked out of the club.

When your basic philosophy is dead wrong, that’s not a good thing…

Couldn’t have said it better. Except sometimes I can’t help but make a comment or two.

Consider me hugged.

I’m a registered Republican and have been for years. But I consider myself as part of the moderate wing of my party and I hate the way that some of the worst elements of the conservative wing have hijacked our party and saddled us with a reputation we’re going to end up spending decades overcoming.

The driveby pooping on the thread begins in 3, 2, 1…

Sorry, but the odds on this board make it the logical bet.

It hasn’t happened already? You have a very relaxed idea of drivebys…

Registered Republican, leaning toward libertarian. I’m for lower taxes, a strong military, and more individual rights or states’ rights.

You mean like how you can’t order a hamburger medium-rare anymore? I feel that pain! Dammit, I’m a grown-up! Give me a paper explaining the dangers of underccoked hamburgery, make me sign it, then give me my damned bloody hunk o’ cow!
[/soapbox]

Seriously. This kind of thing drives me looney.

Of the other hand, thinking back on what you said, I don’t blame individual restaurants for having a POLICY that they can’t serve hamburger medium rare…they never know who is going to get sick and sue them. It’s when the law steps in and says the restaurant CAN’T serve a burger that way that it bugs me. (I don’t know where you live, and whether there is an ordinance there or not.) Buying a hamburger should be a contract between you and the restaurant, and the government should stay out of it. If you can’t get a hamburger cooked to your satisifaction, then you keep looking until you find a restaurant where you can. Why does the law have to come into it?

Not just a Republican, but a somewhat moderate anti-NewWorldOrder, pro-Christian Right Republican.

I’m for regulations & restrictions but not an overall ban to abortion; I’m for civil unions but not gay marriage; I’m for the right of schoolkids & public officials to acknowledge their Deity/Faith in the public square but not to force others to
believe it; Against teaching strict Creationism or Darwinism in public schools
but for “teaching the debate”; for a strong secure Israel, but also for a Palestinian state once they prove they can behave.

Wow, I go home last night, come in early this morning, and this see that this thread got a little busy. So it seems there are quite a few republicans out here, probably outnumbered a little, still.

When I first registered to vote when I turned 18 years old (I am 30 now), I registered as a Democrat because I am Pro-Choice, don’t care about sexual orientation, and am for programs for the poor. After a few years in the Marines, my priorities became a ‘stronger America’ and a stronger military. Although I belive Bill Clinton is a genius, his morals (or lack of in my opinion) turned me away.

I am NOT a fan of Bush (but I do like the fact he does not care about polls or is not out just to ‘please’ everyone) but I think he generally cares about making America a better place. Hopefully the Republican party comes out with a strong candidate this year.

Come to Herb’s Tavern in Rocky River and they’ll make you a medium rare with grilled onions and swiss cheese, served with a tall, cold local brew .
Republican, by the way.

I’m a Republican of the libertarian type.
