Am I too old fashioned?

Yes, that’s exactly what I’d get. Something like a sandisck santa.

I want a media player that will divide the odds, and play seemlessly under any comfiguration.

I don’t own an iPod or MP3 player but I can see why they are popular. As a physical carrier of portable audio content they are superior to their predecessor technology–Walkmans and Diskmans–in the same way that CDs are superior to LPs. They are way less bulky. They can carry tons more music. You can still buy your music by the CD if that’s your cup of tea, and put it all on your iPod. What’s not to like?

As for GPS and navigation systems–I don’t see the point of that unless you’re frequently driving to new places.

It depends on your phone. A lot of the newer phones (motorola v3, blackberries, most of the new Nokias, etc) use a Mini USB plug which is readily available. Most of the older phones used a weird proprietary cable designed to make you buy the phone-specific cable off the manufacturer- so the Radio Shack guy may not be full of shit, depending on your phone.

Gah. <runs to get phone>

it’s a Cingular (how come admen can’t spell?). LG. It’s about 2 years old. That’s ancient in today’s electronic world. Damn.
:frowning:
Guess I’ll never have real pics of #2 son’s team winning that chess tournament and other great pics I’ve taken on the stupid phone. Why can’t a phone just be a phone? <goes off ranting and kicking stuff>

My god man, you don’t have all the latest electronic gizmos strapped to your belt. Your penis must therefore be very small.

Don’t sweat it, Gorgon. They’re all just tools. If you don’t need them, why should you have them. It’s not like you’re some Luddite who refuses to use new technology to show everyone else how perversely great he is.

I’m finding it more difficult to find eight-track tapes.

This will give you something to look forward to, since that old TV will be more outdated than you are, not too far in the future. :smack:

I suppose I was pretty old fashioned until recently, when I finally bought my first cell phone and an iPod Touch within the past year. Now I feel as though I couldn’t live without either of them.

I’ve had the iPod for only a few months and I just realized I haven’t touched a CD since. They’re really not complicated at all and they’re much more efficient than CDs. I don’t have to flip through CD books or cases, and with a few touches to the screen I can instantly play the song I want. Plus, it has internet access so I can check my e-mail or browse porn sites even if I’m at work.

I love my iPod so much I sleep with it every night too.

You are perfectly ok. My brother was one of the hardware engineers who invented the iPod. Guess what? He seldom uses it. Doesn’t even take it when jogging.

I’m another technophobe. I have a cassette player in the car. I only have a phone because someone bought me one, and I don’t use it for anything but phone calls. I’d be happy to get rid of all the TVs in our house. I think video games ought to look like cartoons and you should view your character from the side as it moves across the screen from left to right.

However, I have a teenage kid, and a techie husband, so when I don’t understand stuff they can explain it to me. My husband has this phone with a touchscreen and a stylus that accesses the Internet and probably does other marvelous things as well. Usually, when he gets a new phone, I wind up with his old one, but I told him he can pass that thing right along to the kids. I want a phone that looks like a damn phone, and the bigger the better!

However, one thing I’ve really appreciated is the Microsoft Streets and Trips GPS system. When we go on trips these days, I actually get to look out the windows instead of trying to read a paper map. It saves us a lot of time that we used to spend being lost, too.

I’m not really a technophobe, but I don’t pursue the latest technology, either. I like to go to Howstuffworks.com to get the dummy’s version of popular technology, as I like to have a very basic understanding of what folks are talking about. In fact, I just opened another browser window to find out what this bit torrent stuff is.

Count me as another who doesn’t want to have music constantly at hand. I go out for my walk or my jog and count it as the only time of day I don’t have to stare at a computer or listen to phones ringing or people jabbering. I’d rather hear birds and kitties and wind in the trees, thanks.

Uh, this website claims there’s multiple models of LGs out there. cellphoneshop.net Which of the pictures looks like your phone? You can click on it and see the accessories available from them, so you could see if there actually is a cable available.

That said, I do not vouch for the genuineness of that website, it’s just the first hit that got returned. Also, you should check with the nearest Cingular store to see what they say – not Radio Shack.

Thank you! Will do.
