It looks like Amanda has finally bottomed out. She got picked up a few days ago after setting a fire on someones driveway. Had gas splashed on herself and her dog. The last couple of years have been a steady decline. It’s different from Lindsay Lohan because Amanda seems to have genuine psych issues. It’s speculated in the news that it’s schizophrenia. A horrible condition that often strikes down young adults.
Hopefully they can get her on meds and turn things around like Britney Spears. A lot depends on the parents winning the court battle for conservatorship. It won’t be easy because Amanda has plenty of money to hire blood sucking lawyers. They could successfully block an intervention. Basically condemning her to more years of untreated illness.
Lohan is primarily an addict. Shes never been placed on a involuntary psych hold.
Schizophrenia is considered one of the more severe mental illnesses. I’ve been reading some. The newer meds are a big improvement and have less side effects. But getting the patient to take them can be a problem.
The paparazzi probably aren’t helping with the paranoia.
My wife reminded me that she was in Easy A (I never finished that movie, wasn’t enjoying it) but I can’t think of anything she’s done since she was on the Amanda Bynes show. I was wondering why all the media interest in someone who hasn’t done anything of note in years.
It sounds like the judge is taking a sensible approach. Hopefully the lawyer won’t screw things up by using a trick to get her out of the hospital. They need to observe her awhile now that shes detoxed.
I googled her image and still did not recognize who she was. It looks like she is big with the Nickelodeon crowd. Has she done anything of note outside of kid-friendly family fare?
She was also on a TV series. Don’t recall the name of the show, I saw one episode but didn’t know she was in it because I didn’t really know who she was until my kids explained it to me.
I’ve never even seen Easy A, but whenever I see some headline about Amanda Bynes getting into trouble again it takes me a moment to realize that she’s not the red-haired actress who starred in The Help. That was of course Emma Stone, who also starred in Easy A. I must have gotten their names mixed up at some point.
I don’t think I’ve actually seen Amanda Bynes in anything since I caught part of the She’s the Man (2006) on cable. I can’t say I was impressed. I hope she’ll be able to get effective treatment for her mental health or substance abuse problems, but if she never does another movie then I don’t think it will be a great loss to the world of cinema.
Sure. If she wasn’t a celebrity, no one would hear about this story except for local news covering a driveway fire and it wouldn’t be in Cafe Society. The only reason anyone gives a moment’s thought to it is because she’s Amanda Bynes.
There was a poster on here who posted some time last year about his daughter’s quick and extreme “demise” into mental disease in her 20s. It sounded awful and scary. We learned in that thread that it’s not uncommon for [bipolar disorder? schizophrenea?] to present itself like that in young women.
If Bynes isn’t an addict and not simply a mean girl (I only know of her from her mean tweets that Buzzfeed posts!) then she might very well have…quick onset mental problems.
As a child she had her own show on Nickelodeon and co-starred on Nick’s “All That”.
My kids used to watch both when they were little. I remember being impressed with her skills since she was obviously one of the youngest on the All That show. I was particularly impressed with her impression of Ross Perot.
I called her the “Little Ross Perot” girl around my daughters.
It’s never been reported what Britney Spear suffers from. But the judge recently extended her conservatorship. It seems to be working. She’s really turned thing around in the past three years. She’s lucky that her parents are helping her. She had really gone off the deep end for awhile.
Maybe Amanda can recover too. At least function and take care of herself.
