Amazing Optical Illusion

Clipped a small section of square A and pasted it on top of square B in paint. Too bizarro!!

You could make serious money on bars bets with that illusion. I would have bet $ 20 they were diffferent shades.

I’ve seen this one before, so I know they’re the same, but it is a cool illusion.

Here are some more illusions of the same nature, built via animation so you can see that the illusion is really just an illusion.

Wow. I just saw a similar optical illusion that used a checkerboard of pictures of Michael Jackson and a pale-faced bonobo. They looked different but if you put one on top of the other they were the same!

I first saw this at randi.org, wasted my time in Paint, and was utterly amazed. It took me quite some time to convince Pricegal that the squares are in fact exactly the same shade of grey.

It’s a weird world.

Algernon - that link is the coolest!

I’m going to try to recreate this effect with my clay and see what kind of neat beads I can get out of it.

I tried the same, and here’s the altered image. I agree, the difference seems even greater. Amazing.

Hmm, sorry, I don’t know why the link doesn’t work. Anyway it doesn’t look all the different without the captions.

** This is the devil’s work!!!** Cast out the wicked one from your hearts and be cleansed!

I’m so kidding… that’s a neat illusion.

Perhaps a wager? $100, $1000, $10,000? Your choice…

Ah-HAH! I just put my two index fingers on the monitor, along the sides of the little strip that Frank #2 added and – I’ll be a sunuvagun! You can actually watch the illusion go away!

This is so cool!

(I know. I am such a dork.)

Eww! That weird, LifeOnWry!

It’s the shadow of the green cylinder that does this. And the illusion of the “darker” square surrounded by lighter squares and vice-versa.
