I suppose “soul surfers” sounds better than “stoner surfers.” This show needs more diversity and awareness building. They need to portray stoners who are just as capable as other people!

I’ve had the hot cups treatment before and that part, at least, shouldn’t be painful at all. It feels a little odd but not painful. But after it’s done, it looks like someone just beat the hell out of you. My back was absolutely covered on bruises for a week or so afterward. It did release a ton of tension, though.
I’m going to sound even worse than I did when I commented on her arm stump, but…I actually wondered if she had sustained any brain damage from the shark attack, to the point where I googled it.
I felt really bad for everyone with those “massages.” That seemed truly over-the-top to me. It’s one thing to know you’re risking injury when you go on the Race, but to deliberately cause pain and injury is too far.
I know you’re joking, and almost certainly already know this, but the movie about Betheny is named Soul Surfer.
I found that movie pretty much unwatchable, btw. They dialed the cloying, treacly religious preaching up to 11.
What did you say about the stump? I’m late to the season so didn’t see it. If you said “I’m sick of looking at wiggly stump” I would have to agree. I get weird butterflies in my stomach every time I have to look at it, which is constantly.

Didn’t they do some incredibly painful foot massage in China, several seasons back? And there was the horrible chest waxing task in Brazil a few seasons ago. Seems like the location scouts and producers seek out agonizing local traditions.
ETA: lorene or somebody commented that when Adam puts his arm around Bethany, his hand winds up right over her stump, practically cupping it. Which is really disturbing to see.

Beth has odd way of speaking that makes her seem like she might be on the low side of the IQ spectrum. I don’t mean that to sound mean or hateful because I think they are my favorite team of the remaining teams.
I’ve noticed this as well. It’s like she doesn’t move her chin or she’s talking through her teeth or… something that just doesn’t sound right.
Yeah it’s a real thing, and yeah, it does help.
The cupping reduces tension, the scraping is generally done to release “bad air” - whether psychotropic or not I’m not sure, but if I’m feeling “flu-ey” it does make me feel better.
I would guess the cupping isn’t a big deal, but doing it to raw, savaged meat is just adding salt & vinegar to already burned flesh, and looks horrible.
