Amazing Race 3/8

Maybe I just overlooked the thread, but the most magical of all reality shows has episode 2 of it’s newest season airing tonight.

I am firmly rooting for Rob, if only to make the heads of the other teams explode that devote all of their worries to where he might be.

Everyone else seems vaguely pleasant although the on-again, off-again couple is clearly due for more nasty anger.

I predict that the two non-blondes will want to discuss things before making a hasty decision, and then make a hasty decision.

And then change their mind halfway through an event anyway. They are my favorite for now, but we’ll see how long they can last.

Go Patrick! Your mom’s kind of ick, but I like you fine. Like those other blondes, you remind me of an old boyfriend – and yes, he did turn out to be gay, so there you go.

Who’s your prediction for first and last this week?

For first place, I’d go with Rob & Amber. Love them or hate them, they raced really well last week. And they are one of the few teams who aren’t obsessed to distraction with beating Rob and Amber.

For last place, my money is on the older couple (Meredith and ??). They’re no Don and Mary Jean.

Oh c’mon, the Boobsey Twits are all over last place.

My question is about the yield… this time, the rules are saying there’s a yield on every leg, and that no one used it, which I can understand, since it’s the beginning of the race.

Think we’ll see it by ep 6? or even later?

I don’t watch the show but was (pleasantly) surprised to find that Rob & Amber were competing. Personally, I like the couple a lot from what I saw in the All-Star Survivor season, so I hope that this shows them as a reasonably well-adjusted, balanced, good-humored couple–which would not only be a nice change of pace from reality TV, but would fly in the face of the people who are secretly hoping that they turn into a train wreck.

However, I hope they don’t win, simply because they don’t really need the money at all. However, I take this sentiment back if it turns out everyone else competing is a total tool, or if they end up whomping everyone so badly that their not winning would be seen by even the most cynical as clearly unfair.

I guess now I’ll be dropping by the TWoP recaps for this show…

The last TAR showcased a couple (they came in second) that is all of the above, even moreso than Rob and Amber.

Hate him if you want, Boston Rob is hilarious. He’s devious, which is perfect for these type of shows. He’s charming, which serves him well in so many ways. When he winked at the camera I cracked up.

Is he an asshole? Yes.

Is he good at these types of competitions? Definitely.

Yeah… but I think I’m still mounting the Rob “dislike” wagon, if there is one. Really a smart racer this time, but I don’t have to like his methods. Maybe I’m just too nice.

$$ is turning out to be an issue this leg.

Hehehe…himbos or bimbos? Himbos or bimbos?

I will admit to being completely inconsistent and hypocritical, because if, say, Colin or Jonathan had tried to pull off what Rob did (TWICE!) tonight, I’d have been all over the “that was uncool!” button…but when Rob did it, I laughed. And laughed. And laughed. Especially the wink!

And I loved when he walked past the camera in the library, put his finger to his lips, and went, “Shhh!”

I was sidetracked by “The Big Break III” but I did manage to catch most of the race. I’ve probably said this before but the reason I like Boston Rob is that he understands this whole thing is a friggin game. That’s all this thing is. He plays it to win but he plays it knowing, I think, that his life will go on afterward. I do, however, think it would help him to learn that others take this thing very seriously and when you do things like, oh, say, steal someone’s cab (or evict someone the week after they help your girlfriend out), they’ll be pissed about it. Then again, he probably doesn’t really care - which happens to be another thing I sort of admire about him.

Frankly I hope they win BECAUSE they don’t need the money. Teach these couples that a lousy million dollars won’t do anything except put an extra million in their account.

Funny, I hated Rob’s pompous self on Survivor, both times, but I almost don’t mind him on TAR. Although I don’t think much of them as racers, the mother/son team is halfway local to me, so I have to pull for them a bit. I was glad to see the (stacking) brothers survive to play another day, they are having a good time.

Are Ray and Deana becoming dangerously close to * and Victimia status, or is it just me? Nah, on second thought, they are still just at Colin and Christie, but they are on a quick decline.

I’m glad someone liked it, because I didn’t. That’s the bullshit I hated about him on [the other show which shall not be named], too. God. I had my remote confiscated because I was throwing things at the television.

I am in awe of Rob and Amber! Well, OK, Rob. He is a hoot! And can he stack books!!!
Good racing. Way to go to be in first place! Now. . . why no $20,000 for the Rob and Amber? Granted, I’d like to go to Atlantis, but it does pale in comparison to what the blonde girls without boobs got last week.

And my mind is still spinning because Phil has bamboozled us! He clearly said “. . . the last team to arrive MAY be eliminated” and I thought, “Oh, no, not a non-elimination leg this early in the Race.” But then the Boobsey Twins were Philiminated. So we can’t even trust Phil any more. (Good!)

And what was with the scales in the fishmonger’s shop? Were they really out of whack?

I had neutral feelings about Rob before lastweek. Then when he had so much trouble with the car trunk, I saw him as an almost lovable idiot. But after seeing the video extra from last week, where he say’s he just knew that Phil was joking when they didn’t come in first. I now think he’s an ass.

Great leg. Minimal bunching, a detour with no clear cut choice, and an honest-to-goodness race at the finish!

Rob and Amber have to be the favorites at this early stage. They ran a perfect race. I don’t watch Survivor, so I don’t have any “anti-Rob” bias, so I’m inclined to root for them. They are good racers, they are enjoying themselves, interacting with the locals, everything we always want in a team.

The one thing that bothers me is Rob’s attitude towards his competitors. The incident with the bus driver, and next week’s apparent cab theft, are leaving a sour taste.

I was happy to see the brothers advance. They really seem to be having a good time. After last week, I thought they were a cinch to go deep into the race, but now I’m not so sure. I don’t know what they did wrong this week, but they’ve got a lot of ground to make up, or my two favorite teams are going to be gone by week 3. (The other being Ryan & Chuck; I’m still bitter about that one.)
So far, it looks like this season is going to be much better than the last one. To begin with, I can already tell all of the teams apart. It looks like money may be more of an issue this time, which may or may not turn out to be a good thing. And in the first two weeks, the last place teams have lost by a total of about 60 seconds.

I really didn’t like Rob when he was on Survivor because it seemed as though everyone was just rolling over for him. But seeing his antics now make me want to root for him. He and Amber remind me of “The really really rottens” on saturday morning cartoons when I was little. They cheated all the way through the race but always lost.

Paying the bus driver to not open the back door was great and cheating the other team out of the bribe money was priceless!

I must protest the lack of camera time for the greeter woman. She was purty.
