I am so excited about the finale tonight that I couldn’t wait for someone else to start this thread. I am so hoping for a Ken / Gerard win, but I daren’t get my hopes up too much as every team I have rooted for so far has ended up third. On the other hand, there is always the team of bad guys in the finals, but they haven’t won yet. I guess this means the evillness of Flo is up against Ian.
I would begrudgingly accept Terry and Ian as the winners, as long as it keeps Flo far, far away from any happiness. She would be very upset if Ian won, so Terry and Ian are my second choice. Just to spite Flo.
Ken and Gerard deserve it, IMO. They have been smart and kept a good attitude throughout. Go, K&G!
Here is what I know will happen in tonights episode:
-Flo will scream and cry about something minor and completely pointless, both to the outcome of the game and life in general.
-Ian will come across looking like a jerk.
-Teri and Zach will look like wallflowers.
-Ken & Gerard will have fun doing anything.
-2 teams will mention how alliances are out the window and they will do whatever it takes.
-1 team will feel confident about the location of the final pit stop. They will then fail to win.
Things I hope will happen:
-Ken & Gerard win.
-Flo will lose in one of 2 ways. She will either be stuck in the middle of a freezing lake on a leaky boat in the middle of a fierce storm when she finds out the race is over. Or, she will be solely responsible for the loss because Zach was fast enough to reach the mat before Ken & Gerard but she was passed with less than 20 feet to go.
-Teri and Ian will choose the detour that involves interning at mime school for 6 months.
YES! Amazing Race goodness, two hours of it. Mmmm. The only sad thing is no new ones for awhile (they’re filming it in January). But Flo must take a long walk of a short pier, preferably losing in a fashion as described in Mullinator’s post. Ah, to see her edged out would be great.
The predicitions all seem good. And I, too, am pulling for Ken and Gerard. And I think the evilness of Ian will cancel out the evilness of Flo, allowing Ken and Gerard to pull ahead.
Okay, the way I see it, there are three possibilities:
Teri helped the Nolongerinit Twins find their clue as a courtesy. Flo handed Ken & Gerard the Roadblock location for absolutely no friggin’ reason. To paraphrase Leo whatsisname, the nice guy never, ever wins. A look at past Survivor winners confirms this (forget Ethan…broken clock, yada yada). Additionally, the past two Amazing Race winners were both very cutthroat and quick to capitalize on others’ mistakes. Outcome clear: Ken & Gerard first, Teri & Ian second, and Flo & Zach third.
Unfortunately, while evil can take you all the way in Survivor, it’s only good for the final three in AR…whereupon slipping to second or even a distant third is a considerable risk. Overall, the Teri-Ian pairing has been more evil. So Ken & Gerard still take first, but Flo & Zach take second, with Teri & Ian a distant and disappointed third.
And of course, the final possibility…that things will go crazy on the final lap and the winner will be someone completely out of left field that no one would’ve bet a nickel on at the beginning. This is exactly what happened with Vecepia (and you can definitely make a case for Richard as well). Who would the lucky underdog be? Why, none other than Teri and Ian, who made so much noise about not underestimating old people and teaching all those young brats a lesson that you’re actually a little shocked that it hasn’t jumped up and bit them yet. Did I mention that they started five legs either dead last or second to last? That settles it…Teri & Ian first, followed by a game Ken & Gerard, and a limping Flo & Zach pick up the rear.
Okay! Got some last-minute Christmas shopping to do, so I’ll be taping this, but I promise to have the customary big wrapup at the end. See y’all then.
Ugh. Ugh, ugh, ugh!!! Fucking Flo. Well, at least Zach got compensated for putting up with the banshee. Did anyone notice the last shots? How Zach was carrying Flo on his shoulders? Representative of the whole race, no?
And please, for all that is holy, stop showing Jill and John Vito. I’m depressed enough already without being reminded of what could have been.
Did you see Jill and John Vito looking at each other like that? Ahhh!
I don’t think it’s possible to be more disappointed! FLO & ZACH??? Is there no justice? Why didn’t they just throw up and leave the race in the first hour???
So, what do we learn? That if you whine and cry and carp and pout and swear and refuse to do athletic things and let your partner carry you – literally-- that you end up a winner. What ever happened to pluck and spunk and a gung-ho attitude? Ah, fuggedaboudit! Fooey!
When’s the next Race?
I wonder if Zach was competing in the same race I was watching… the one on my tv showed Flo giving up and quitting on a weekly basis.
… oh the humanity …
Oh! And not only did Zach get compensated for putting up with Flo, but he also discovered during this little competition that romance is out of the question for them… should save himself some serious money in therapy later on.
But did you hear Flo right after that? How the best result for her would have been romance. How could she imagine the performance she put on would be even remotely attractive?
Her whining, moaning, and crying - almost kept me from watching her boobs
Fuck.
I, from my vast knowledge of the Amazing Race (having started watching with this season), have to say: there’s too much bunching: I understand that it doesn’t make for good TV for a team to be 3 days ahead or something, but there’s no way to gain any real advantage. I mean, on the last part (from Hawaii) there were, what? three bunch up points (The flight from Japan, the Kahuna who didn’t open 'till 10) and the flight to seattle. One bunch-up point? Fine. Three? In the final leg? Too damn much levelling of the playing field, IMHO. While it’s not an interesting competition if leads are allowed to go forever, it’s also not interesting if you know that advantages keep evaporating because of the way the show’s set up.
Well I’m tempted to say, “There is no God.” But I knew that already, so…
Good for Zach. If anyone deserves half a million dollars, it’s him. He made it all the way carrying that useless screaming harpy on his back, and put up with more whining bullshit than any human being deserves to be subjected to. In fact, if Flo had any moral decency whatsoever, she would give at least a substantial cut of her money to Zach, because she doesn’t deserve a nickel. Ain’t gonna happen, though. Like I said…no God.
Why were Flo and Zach not penalized for not completing the task where they were supposed to row (themselves, right?) across to the island in the basket boats? They had other people row for them!
I wondered about that too. But both other teams had civilians helping them with the bikes, so if they got penalized, it was across the board. With all the bunching, a single penalty wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
The only consolation for Zach is that he gets 1/2 mil to have put up with that whiney bitch.
And also that twin she was hot for can breathe a sigh of relief that he didn’t get mixed up with her after he watches the show.
Or if he did hook-up with her and sees the show, he’ll be slowly edging away for the door.
I also wondered about the rowing yourself across the river thing. And while other teams may have had bystandards helping them, they still worked to complete the tasks themselves. Where Flo just sat back in the boat, and was rowed back and forth…didn’t even get out to read the clue.
While it kills me that Flo won, I have to say that there is a strong argument for Zack really being the best racer. He managed to complete most of the roadblocks, navigate the race, and drag her sorry ass along with him.
I actually screamed at the tv when those two came around the corner, and agree that in the next to last leg, there was too much bunching, as well as no place to really change order once they got to Seatle. I think it sucks that winning or losing the race basically came down to being lucky enough to find a cab first. Although I did like the creative driving the cab driver for Ken and Gerard did.
As soon as they started spending so much time on Flo’s meltdown in Viet Nam I knew she and Zach were going to win, even before the first commercial break. Unfortunately, I was proved correct.
Actually, I’m happy for Zach. Anyone who put up with everything he did and still kept pushing to win deserves it. Too bad it means Flo won too.
Actually, Zach won. Flo was just along for the ride.
Someone claiming to be Flo showed up on the TVwoP boards and basically took everyone to task there for giving her a hard time, saying she really wasn’t a whiny bitch and she was just edited to look that way and that everyone who was complaining about her were losers. (I say “claiming” since the post appeared before the final episode aired and I thought the contestants couldn’t talk publicly about the Race before it ended or they were Eliminated.) She talked about how the Race made her such a better person.
Well Flo, you may have won a half-million (No, Zach won a half-million for you; you gave up at least twice and would have quit if it weren’t for him.) but at least all of us didn’t present ourselves as a shrewish bitch to the entire country on national TV. Suggestion: use the money for therepy. You need it.
