Amazon Lord of the Rings series; The Rings of Power

This Rory Kinnear fella seems like a good choice, anyway.

Ugh. Sorry, Tom was a Bomb-baddil in my book (so to speak).

I hope that picture in the article isn’t accurate. If his jacket isn’t a vivid azure and his boots aren’t a bright canary yellow, I’m going to be pissed. It’s right in his theme song for Eru’s sake.

I have zero faith that the writers will not low-brow their way into an “Inaction is compliance/ neutrality is support for evil” argument…with TOM BOMBADIL.

You may as well be lecturing the wind. And then they’ll have him either explain it to them in third grade terms or some mumbo-jumbo like “The sea is always right” or “Why ships float and rocks sink”

Neither is acceptable.Or profound.

Why don’t they have Galadriel Spitz swim over to tell off Eru Illuvatar and complain about the patriarchy.

In all sincerity, Jack Black would be the perfect casting choice for that character in every way, for both good and bad. Tolkien might as well have written that character with Jack Black as inspiration.

Dammit, if I re-read The Fellowship of the Ring it will be impossible to not read that character’s dialog in Jack Black’s voice.

Instead of Galadriel, season two is going to focus more on Celebrimbor. I guess it has to, given the creation of the rings, but I found him completely uninteresting in the first season. Still, I will watch. (Also, ignore the Clickbait headline, they are not replacing Galadriel)

When will season 2 drop?

August 29.

I thought she did a decent job with the part anyway.

I felt they made Galadriel a very un-Galadriel like mix of The pointyhaired boss and Zapp Branigan. The actress still made the character interesting. More interesting than the harfoots at least, though thats a low bar.

Agreed. And I’ll still watch S2, come what may.

FWIW:

Apparently the first three episodes of season 2 dropped today! I’m going to start watching and will report later.

We’re rewatching s1 eps 6-7-8 first.

Apparently they recast Adar, the original actor didn’t want to return. Which is really weird in the first scene of S2E1, because it’s a different Sauron actor for plot purposes, but he is shortly replaced by the original actor.

The makeup kind of smears the difference. They’re clearly different actors, but the character feels the same.

We’ve watched the first episode, still liking it.

Anyone know when the next episodes are available?

Ok…ok…

ok…

Did that crown have magical Sauron killing properties? Gandalf fought several Nazgul for hours. He also fought a balrog for days. One does not simply stab Sauron in the head and kill him. Saruman died so easily because he was so diminished.

Without going into great detail, I largely disagree with most of the decisions made with the series to date…but (like The Acolyte) I don’t hate the notion of The Tragedy of Sauron. But the creators are fan-fic level writers who draw inspiration from shippers and things like Breaking Bad.

And don’t get me started on reducing Tom Bombadil to giving pep talks about things he’d hardly give a shit about. Thats like the wind giving a pep talk to the ocean. Tom is “Before.” He’s “Other.” He’s “First and probably last” I doubt he could be bothered to remember Saurons name if he even knew it in the first place,

Of course this is all IMHO. If you all like it…im glad for you.

One other thing…NuBSG did the whole “Are the bad guys really bad and maybe WE’RE the bad guys” over 20 years ago. No one complained. There were complaints about gender-swapping*, though I never heard any about race-swapping.

Also THEIR ‘Eru’ is a bit of a bastard.

  • Those died quickly when it turned out the main complaint (Starbuck) was seen to be basically the same character, just female.

What is Sauron’s original name, anyway? I know Morgoth was originally Melkor.
