I was discussing this with one of my students this weekend. She was of the opinion that a bat on US currency is ridiculous because “covid came from a bat and now we all have to wear masks.” After a full-body eye roll I changed the subject.

I do think its really cool and wouldn’t mind having a couple in my change jar.

Might I recommend investing in screens.

I have sceens. And screen doors. They get in, sometimes by the dozens anyway! I think the screen mesh needs to be smaller than one quarter the wavelength of a mosquito to block them, or something like that.

Maybe I can just catch one or several. The apartment building next door to mine has a colony of bats living in the attic. Every evening at just about sundown they come swarming out. It’s cool to hang out and watch them.

Someday the ceiling of the upstairs apartments going to cave in under the weight of all the years of accumulated bat guano.

You have to be dead to be on a stamp or coin but I guess they made an exception for Batman stamp.

I think he died in at least one timeline, so it’s probably OK.

I’m not sure if it’s still the case, but Maine used to be the only state with a dead animal displayed on our license plates. (Bright red cooked lobster)

AFAICT, your average superhero has died and been revived at least a half dozen times. And it may or may not be canon (I have no idea), but he does mostly die in The Dark Knight Returns.

Just before the drought ended, I noticed that the hummingbird feeders seemed to be emptying overnight. I waited up til way past my bedtime and saw a “flock?” of bats feeding. I only saw them that once, but going by the feeders, they were regular visitors. I have 4 o’clocks growing as well and I like to think that the bats like the sweet night blooms.

I like bats and think they are cool and all. I would not be happy to have bats in my attic.
