American flag next to Cuban flag? WTF?

In the front yard of Elian Gonzales’ uncle’s house, there is an American flag and a Cuban flag hanging out in front next to each other.

Now, it is pretty much understood that Elian’s relatives in Miami are adamantly against Elian’s return to Cuba because Cuba is all fucked up, it’s run by Castro, and uhhh, it’s all fucked up. So what I don’t get is : Why the fuck do they have a Cuban flag hanging there?

I mean, if they hate Cuba so much, then what gives? Are they trying to show their pride or something? Because if they are… man, they really chose a good country to be proud of.

Maybe those fanatics there hate the current Cuban government but love the nation itself.

What gets me, though, is why they burned an American flag but haven’t done that to a Cuban flag yet.

Oh, well.

I’ll tell ya what irritates the fuck out of me. It’s all those Cuban renegades who have come to America from Cuba and insist upon flying the American flag upside down. I think we should put all those bastards back on their rafts at Miami Beach and give 'em a gentle shove south.

Unc, if you towed them out far enough from Biscayne Bay, the Gulf Stream would pick them up and they’d end up in Ireland. Wouldn’t THAT be innarestin’?

Hey, there’s a damned fine idea. Maybe we can give 'em a bloody stump to use as an oar, too.

My husband and I were just thinking about this last night. I guess that I have to agree with the idea that they are probably proud of their Cuban heritage, but in this case, flying the Cuban flag seems a little strange. Flying the flag of Rwanda would make more sense!

Anyways, I’m new here - I’m pleased to meet all of you!

I think we solved the Black Irish origin mystery.

Tony Soprano Yeah, always a fucking loophole.

Semi-related question:

Why were so many of the “protesters” carrying Puerto Rican flags? Did they think the gringos wouldn’t know the difference? Or were they ringers?

Enquiring minds wish to know.
