AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 3: COVEN (Open Spoilers)

I loved the morgue scene. It made so little sense, but was so great. And Evan Peters pulled off ‘first day with the new body’ perfectly.

Jessica Lange and Angela Basset’s face-off was great. Just really liking this season.

Also, and it’s really minor - but I think the opening credits are the best of the 3 seasons to date.

How about Twat of Terror?

On an entirely separate subject (I hope) I wonder what Stevie Nicks thinks of the major references to her?

I had been laughing about the use of Stevie Nicks whenever Misty was on the screen, and then she ruined it by actually talking about Stevie Nicks.

Ryan Murphy knows Stevie Nicks and specifically asked her to use her songs. This exchange is from an Entertainment Weekly interview:

Next episode we have Mare Winningham (in a role Murphy wrote for her) and Patti LuPone guest starring (looks like LuPone will be a recurring character; not sure about Winningham).

This season really is shaping up to be even better than the first, from the quality of the returning actors and the new additions and guest stars, and the storyline as well.

I am REALLY enjoying it so far, and can’t wait for the face-off between Angela and Jessica.

I am, however, a bit bummed that Zachary Quinto is not on it this year. I love him.

I’ve named her Pop Tart.

Mrs G and I just discovered this show and are loving it. We’re watching season 1 concurrently, top-notch scene chewing especially from Lange.

Certainly the scariest (at least to me).

“Yeah, she needs to work on aim”

Mare Winningham giving a handy to her Frankenstein-son is not something you can unsee.

Yeah.

Instead of displaying that “TV - Mature Audiences - contains sexual situations, violence, offensive language” warning coming back from each commercial, it should just say “TV - Just Wrong. Contains every Wrong thing you can think of.”

Did I hear one of the witches calling the other one a “gash”? I nearly died. I haven’t heard that one since my fag-hag days going dancing with my gay friends. They used it as a term of endearment.

The Tootsie Pop Owl weighed in with, “Thrrreee. It takes exactly three episodes for American Horror Story: Coven to go completely batshit insane.”

Let’s see, in addition to the camera tricks that seemed to be a little more in evidence this time (odd angles, fish-eye lens, weird perspective), we had:[ul][li]Mother-son incest (er, is it still incest if it’s not really the son’s body?)[]Semi-consensual Minotaur sex[]Bizarre pregnancy ritual[*]Marie Laveau’s evil cackle[/ul]The performances of Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Angela Basset are just incredible. And I thought Patty LuPone in her scene with Lange struck the right tone for her character as well; it will be interesting to see those two spar.[/li]
Favorite lines:

LaLaurie (Bates), after Fiona informs her a black person is indeed president, and details several other prominent positions blacks have held: “Liiiiieeessss!”

Fiona (Lange), sparring with Joan Ramsey (LuPone): “You know I never understood you bible thumpers and your hypocrisy towards sex. I know, behind closed doors, you are the biggest perverts of all.” (Just the way she says this with a satisfied smirk, trying to elicit a reaction, was perfect.)
“Yeah, she has to work on her aim.”

Madison (Emma Roberts): “He’s so backed up all I’d have to say was, ‘panties’ and he’d jizz his jeans.”

The parallels Fiona saw (and set up) between her younger self and Madison were interesting. I wonder if we’ve seen the last of Madison, though.

And Evan Peters is doing a hell of a job with his character; his shambling Kyle is half Frankenstein’s monster, half confused mute.

Can we just call him FrankenKyle now?

One nice thing about a gay executive producer is that I’m guessing we’ll get to see Luke naked. That is one pretty boy.

Totally.

Also, I just noticed on that screen (before commercial) there’s a little logo on the bottom right corner. Looks like a pendant of the feminine symbol on a red chain, but I suspect it’s actually something else that I don’t understand.

But, yeah. I’m digging this so far. Creepy intro, great characters, and what is promising to be several great bitch fights. I wonder who will get to choose sides and who will have to make compromises. It’s a keeper on my DVR.

haven’t seen ep 3 yet - but during the morgue scene in ep2, I just kept thinking to myself -

“C’mon up to the lab, lets see whats on the slab”

“I’ve been making myself a man, with blond hair and a tan”

I like that a murderous evil witch will not tolerate racism.

I just hope that Gabouri Sidibe’s character is not pregnant. Please understand that I personally do not have any prejudice against tortured-slave-turned-immortal-Minotaur/human-witch relationships, but let’s face it: their children don’t fit in anywhere.

How does the Minotaur get around New Orleans? Public transportation?

Personally, I thought all nicknames for semen were used, until Angela Basset said “Baby Gravy.”

Given that her witch power is being a human voodoo doll, I wonder if that Minotaur found out what it feels like to literally fuck yourself.
