American Idol - 11,12 March [open spoilers posibble, open at your own risk]

Chickezie was really entertaining. Took balls to go for the high notes, too.

Someone needs to help that boy pick his clothes better.

Syesha was not good at all. She’ll be around for a few weeks and that’s about it.

Chikezie was great.

Maybe this season is finally turning around.

Back to my predictions holding up. “In My Life” as painfully boring muzak.

I was really impressed by the guy who did “She’s a Woman.” Partly because he knew the song existed (I love the tune, but it’s not well known), and partly because he really did a good version. That was cool.

Not liking this. She’s off the beat a lot. tempo’s too slow. Too Breathy. She’s not respecting the melody. She has no rhythm. I really like this song too, but she didn’t do it justice. The original has a great vocal by John Lennon.

Chikezie was…insane. It was fun to watch, but what the hell was up with the golf outfit?

“In My Life” was exactly what I expected. Kind of melodramatic and completely uninspired.

Ryan and Chick sittin’ in a tree. . .

I thought Remoulade was good. She could do better.

Ramiele’s performance was one of the most boring things I’ve ever seen.

“In My Life” is not a boring song, Simon. You hurt your credibility when you say things like that.

Chikeze knocked it out of the park. I didn’t know he had it in him.

Remiel wasn’t as bad as the judges said she was. I don’t really like what she did with the song, but she did an okay job. Better than Sayesha.

Well, it’s a boring song choice in the sense that it’s obvious and predictable that someone would do a maudlin, uninspired version of it.

As someone who totally grew up on Lennon/McCartney – I probably know every word to every song through the White Album – thus far the only one I’ve liked is Chikezie. He really went in a totally different direction, but that’s the thing about so many L/M tunes – they really hold up to almost any interpretation. I’ll never forget once as a teenager hearing a L/M tune in a soft arrangement when I was out somewhere with my dad, who claimed to hate all music post-1945 or so, and he commented on what a lovely tune it was. He wouldn’t believe me that it was a Lennon/McCartney tune, but it showed me that their stuff can really hold its own against almost any arrangement.

Except as karaoke, which is what Ramiele just performed. <yawn> And I love that song, but still nearly fell asleep! She turned it into total pablum. Shame on her! Syesha was just “pitchy” enough to annoy the crap out of me. And her performance just didn’t hold up well.

I sure hope we get more adventuresome arrangements/performances. Bravo to Chikezie for having the guts to perform the song in a way I, at least, have never heard and never imagined – but worked!

Love this song… and it’s a nice version… but a little breathy. So they can even play instruments this season. Wow.

Jason sure doesn’t sound like he comes from Texas. I’m afraid that Jason’s weak voice will do him in. He’d be a great singer/songwriter type guy-- if he wrote good songs. I still like him. I thing he’s pretty and I like his dreds.

“I feel your heart”? Seriously? Is Paula high?

Stupid question.

I thought Jason was ok. It was basically right down the middle of the fairway. Jason doing what he does with his accoustic guitar. It was solid but nothing special.

What a terrible song choice. One of the things that makes that song so good is the harmonies. Singing it solo robs the song of quite a bit. It was dull.

Yes! That’s what was missing from that song!
