American Idol - 11,12 March [open spoilers posibble, open at your own risk]

The music of John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Not to be confused with The Beatles as was previously reported. I had wondered how they were going to handle Beatles’ harmonies, and the notion of backup singers filling the bill just didn’t click for me. It makes a lot more sense to do the solo songs.

One note: I think it is very important that David A does NOT do another Imagine. Ever again on the show, frankly. He nailed it the first time, and anything he does afterward will always be compared.

It better be Lennon/McCartney together, and not just anything done by either of them. Because if it is, knowing American Idol they’ll go through the entire backlog of Lennon/McCartney stuff and treat us to rousing renditions of “Say Say Say”, “Ebony and Ivory”, and “Imagine”.

If it’s just Lennoon/McCartney, I guess George Harrison is out? “Something” would make a fine ballad for the show.
I want to see Amanda sing “Helter Skelter”.

In case anyone doesn’t frequent the Game Room – you’ve got another 2 hours, 20 minutes to get your picks in for the AI Prediction Game. There a lot of posters I see in here every week who don’t have their picks in yet. Don’t miss it!

Thanks, Hal. I meant to post that reminder myself and forgot.

All I know is I’m a bit bummed about tonight. My satellite box went on the fritz last night, which means no DVR, and it’s my sister’s shower, so I can’t even watch it on the antenna. I’ll have to watch my mom’s recording tomorrow. Boo!!

Are you sure it is only the solo stuff? I thought they spoke earlier in the season about the Lennon/McCartney Beatles songs being released.

Well then ya better get to it – only one hour left!

This is the first week where the stylists get their hands on them. Can’t wait too see what they’ve come up with.

I think I just beat the buzzer, Hal.

Is it me or are there a whole lot of professionals this season? Seyesha is a working actress. She’s doing Earth, Wind and Fire’s version of Got To Get You Into My Life. Her mic tapping is annoying me. Her voice is nice but-- I really hate to say this-- Disney Worldish.

Her lower register isn’t good enough for this song.

I’m not digging this arrangement of “Got to get You Into My Life.” The dynamics aren’t there. Her interpretation is kind of tuneless. Syesha’s usually better than this. She’s robotic and pageanty but usually pretty polished.

Simon is wrong, she wasn’t that good. When he “hears it back,” he’ll change his mind.

After hearing that first song, I fear for this week. So many Beatles songs are among the best pop music ever, and if “Got to Get You Into My Life” is any indication, there’s going to be way too much overorchestration (this from somebody who actually likes “The Long and Winding Road”) and ridiculous arrangements and interpretations (and I own and enjoy the soundtracks for I Am Sam and Across The Universe, as well as a two disc compilation of Beatles covers, so well-done covers don’t scare me).

Ah, well, I wasn’t really expecting great things from Syesha anyhow.
I hope Amanda doesn’t mangle her song choice too badly.

Got to wait a few more hours to see it all.

I absolutely love EW&F’s version (I know, you’re all shocked by that) but it’s got the brassy horns and funky beat that are so cool. This time the band wasn’t up to it this time around.

Is this them dressing Chick? God, I hope he’s gone because I cannot stand the way he dresses.

Wow…little boy Chikizie looks a lot like Gary Coleman.

WTF is this?

Oh man, and Chick immediately makes me eat my words! LOVED IT! I guess the lime green is better than the orange.

That was a very weird take but I think I like it. It was energetic and original. That was probably someone else’s version, though. It always is on this show.

I can’t believe it. I really liked Chikezie!

Ryan can’t move. Skipping around the stage is kinda embarassing…

Try Webster.
I really did not like it.
