American Idol 2/10 & 11 (Plus Bonus Question) (OPEN SPOILERS)

HA! That’s the chick that Simon told Cara, would “make it as soon as someone gives her a chance.” And she’s somehow involved in “relationships” with Executives at 19 Management?! HA HA HA!

I noticed that too. Are they even trying to pretend that they aren’t manipulating the audience anymore? Like Tuesday night when the contestants were made to “wait” in the four rooms while the judges decided. If the judges were still deciding, how did everyone know which room to go into, seeing as how they cut or kept a room at a time?

In reading her history, it appears that someone has given her a chance - a number of times. And, for whatever reasons, fair or foul, she just never took off. It is kinda sad after all. But I think it’s time she accepted that it just isn’t going to happen for her.

Yeah, that was kind of the point of Cara’s question. She’s had record deals with Geffen and A&M, been on some major motion picture soundtracks, had one of her songs covered by another band, but still hasn’t “made it”? And Simon said she’d “make it” when someone gives her a break? That was a friggin’ joke, and he wasn’t even kidding!

I am SO glad she’s out of the competition.

Yeah, I know other former contestants had some gigs prior, but this one’s a little much. She’s already been through the Hollywood paces, ate up and spit out. Too bad, so sad. She could just become a waitress/hooker like all the other washouts. I thought the spirit of American Idol was to discover unknown talent.

I’m very curious what kind of “private relationships” she has with executives at 19 Management, particularly the plurality of it all. Was this a classic case of sleeping her way to a record deal? Scandalous!

It reminded me of that *Simpsons *episode when he’s being interviewed about the sexual harassment charge, and the clock behind him keeps changing…

Editing shouldn’t be that obvious…

ETA: Also, since the contestants knew there would be 36 going through, if Welder and Roughneck were the last ones in the room, wouldn’t they figure it out?

Seriously! If I was in that position I would be counting every single person who made it before me in order to figure out my chances.

I’m convinced they weren’t the last ones in real life. Just more AI editing / fake-amp-up-the-drama shenanigans.

People seemed to be moving in and out of that room, some of them even hanging out outside (that’s where they showed Danny and his friend).

Last season (or the one before, I can’t keep them straight anymore), near the end, Ryan even commented that the kids in the room were doing the math and realizing it was going to come down to two people (or something like that). Anyway, at least the intelligence of the kids wasn’t insulted, and there was an acknowledgment that the math was easy enough to keep track of.

ETA: That kind of makes me wonder if they weren’t moving kids around to different rooms, or bringing them upstairs to wait their turn, before others were sent back down saying whether they made it or not, so by the time the last 2 guys got up there, they really didn’t know how many had made it through.

What happens next? We aren’t going to be voting for 36, are we? Don’t we vote when there are 12 left?

We were wondering last night if anyone knows if there is any pay for contestants at any point. I think they only get paid once they win (or come in second) and get a record deal - does anyone have the Straight Dope on this?

Here’s the youtube of Nathan Headband’s reaction to seeing that Crazyana had made it through.

I thought 12 sing every week for the first 3 weeks, and “America” put the top 3 through. This adds up to 9 total “voted for” finalists.

Then, the judges take the remaining 25 losers and pick either 3 or 4 more(I’m assuming one per judge). This would actually make the “finalists” 13 instead of 12. This is how Clay Aiken got picked in season 2, actually.

Is this close?
By the way, they replaced Joanna-cheater with another from the loser pool. Some girl named Felicia Barton got a reprieve.

They’re breaking them into 3 groups of 12. Each group will perform on successive weeks, and the top 3 vote-getters from each week are in the finals. I think the rest of the F12 is then filled out with the next 3 top vote-getters over all.

My God… I’m dying over here…

The bit with the two blond girls reminded me of Kristen Wiig inKnocked Up. “You’ve got to change your style, honey. Don’t stand out, just… you know, ‘tighten up’!”

What a boring, interchangeable line-up of blah boys and think brunette girls. They’re going to have to have Tatania on 'til the top three to keep me as a viewer (shudder).

I really, really can’t wait for that. You know they’re going to milk it for all they’re worth!

The blonde with the short hair looked like a blonde Molly Ringwald to me.

Hmm. Alexis Grace. I looked her up.

I wasn’t going to watch this year but, frankly, I’ve got nothing better to do. I hope someone inspires me at some point.

Worse than that, the question was to pick the attractive blonde one, or the one who could sing. I thought it was obvious that both descriptions applied to both girls, but none of the other judges got it.
