thanks…
Damn, I forgot about this tonight!
I’ve had part time jobs that were on par with the amount of time Idol’s on right now, sheesh.
Bummer on Leif Frampton instead of Cheekycheese, though.
Not the first time that’s happened. They create an either/or situation, and the person who gets chosen is the next to get voted off. ETA: Yes, I’m keeping half an eye on this, via the net. I don’t hate the show all of a sudden; I’m just not into it this season.
Well, the thread title specifically mentions Open Spoilers, so forgive me if this isn’t kosher. It’s 11pm over on the east coast, so I’m assuming anyone who was dying to know what happened has found out already.
That said… my local Fox station ruined Colton’s axing two breaks before he was gone. “Coming up on tonight’s news, a look back at Virginia’s own Colton Berry, voted off tonight” or something to that effect. Nice going, Fox.
I haven’t really kept up with Idol in years. Do they not do the “bottom 3” thing anymore? Or was the bottom 3 assumed to be the first one voted off, plus the two Ryan called up? If so, way to go DialIdol.
Paula’s video… uh… yeah. Right. I can’t say I hate the song, but “Paula’s going to shake what her mother gave her”? Rather, Paula will stand still and occasionally sway back and forth like an old lady in a rocking chair.
And is it just me, or did Danny only start crying when Colton was axed off? Am I the only person that thinks these two probably hooked up at least once?
We’ll see evidence of other Danny-related hookups in upcoming shows as other fellows leave. Oh wait…Danny might leave. Wonder if he’ll have a total sobbing meltdown?
Hey, this time around, they’ve got the lowest-voted singers’ families up in the red room, and they’re already hanging off the railing even before their favored child/partner/parent sings out. hmmmm…
If DialIdol is even close to accurate, it could be a while before Danny gets voted off the isl-- show. Good thing, too, he’s good eye candy.
Sobbing? Check. Although he does say he’ll go home and THEN cry, but we’ll see.
What I found EXTREMELY interesting is that when Amy left there was hardly any reaction from the girls(except Ramiele, but she looks like a cryer) but when Joanne left, you would have thought she had been assassinated on stage the way everybody carried on.
Which one was more popular,do you think?
Another thing did anybody notice that both the guy and the girl that where last chosen were eliminated in the first week ? Did somebody made a bad choice ?
My wife pointed this out. I’m sure the “tie guy” and the “pretty girl”(this is what we call them) who were the two that were not the last picked can have a minor sense of gratification now. Both Joanne and Colton also didn’t make it more than one more week.
I’m pretty sure they were also bawling when Amy was cut.
I think the right four got voted off. I can’t imagine missing any of them much, especially Garrett. I’m so very happy that he’s not going to be the new Sanjaya. I do feel kind of bad that Joanne is gone, I guess. I liked her, and she was gorgeous, but the singing just wasn’t great. I hope she goes far in her modeling.
I’m not happy Leif Frampton is gone and McCheesy remains. He better sing much better next week or he’ll be the target of my irrational hate this year.
Wait. Which one is McCheesy again?
I have yet to find the target of irrational hate. I AM leaning towards Tinkerbell Danny, though. He would actually be amusing if he would stop over-doing the diva thing. Yuck.
Jacuzzi? Chiceazy.
Orange suit wearing guy. The only black guy.
Yeah, he’s nailed the 14 year-old-valley-girl sneer and OMG! eyerolls. Stop already.
And on the other side of the aisle, rocker chick can stop with the devil-horns, tongue-out bit. You’ve got the gig.
I think a more likely reason for the bigger emotional reaction at the second person to go is due in large part to relief that they’re all safe at least for another week.
I was actually surprised at how well Paula looked and moved in her video, still better than most MTV-glurge acts.
Her voice, on the other hand, was audio-corrected and reprocessed so it sounded robotic and mechanical. I predict the song will replace the long-time hit “By Your Command” on the Cylon top 40 chart.
Yeah…not much actual human performance being shown there. People pretending to sing, pretending to play instruments…the only ones working for a living were the backup dancers.
I have an irrational hatred for Danny, who really needs to get in touch with his masculine side.
I was surprised to see Colton go. I think I’m the only one who actually liked his “Suspicious Minds” song.
Poor Amy. She picked such a hard song and then she had to sing it again after being told goodbye. At least “Suspicious Minds” is easy to nail.
I thought Joanne was extremely gracious in her farewell speech. Actually all of them were.
I loved watching Amanda during the group sing. She looked like a fish out of water. I predict she won’t last long.
I agree about Paula’s video. Had she put in an animated Paula, it would have been 100% electronic. But it wasn’t bad as a dance song if that’s your thang. Her choreography and outfits were Janet Jacksonesque. I would have liked some fresh ideas.
Since the 60s were my decade, I think I’ll just comment on the musical choices…
David Hernandez: “In The Midnight Hour” - Wilson Pickett. Great song, written by Steve Cropper, of Booker T & the MG’s, who also plays himself in The Blues Brothers.
Chikezie Eze: “More Today Than Yesterday” - Spiral Staircase. Idol gets surprising mileage out of this piece of bubblegum by a one-hit wonder. The royalties must be cheap.
David Cook: “Happy Together” - The Turtles. Always liked this song; and we get to hear it twice this week!
Jason Yeager: “Moon River” - Andy Williams. This performance should be slapped on the label for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. The song won the Oscar for Best Song (1961), from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Andy Williams’s theme song ever since.
Robbie Carrico: “One” - Three Dog Night. Written by Harry Nilsson. Didn’t know that before today. An exact clone performance of the original. The judges were impressed with Robbie’s originality.
David Archuleta: “Shop Around” - The Miracles. All the great Motown songs of the 60s, and this is the only one picked in 24 performances.
Danny Noriega: “Jailhouse Rock” - Elvis Presley. 1957. If you’re gonna go out of bounds, you better pull it off. He didn’t.
Luke Menard: “Everybody’s Talkin’” - Nilsson (again), from the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy (“I’m walkin’ here!!”)
Colton Berry (boot): “Suspicious Minds” - Elvis Presley. The better of the 2 Elvis performances, and a fat lot of good it did.
Garrett Haley (boot): “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” - Neil Sedaka. Sedaka charted twice with this song (which he wrote), in 1962 and 1976. This was the 76 arrangement.
Jason Castro: “Daydream” - The Lovin’ Spoonful. Never liked the song, but enjoyed the performance.
Michael Johns: “Light My Fire” - The Doors (Idol’s website attributes it to Jose Feliciano. Please).
Kristy Lee Cook: “Rescue Me” - Fontella Bass. Did not do justice to the original.
Joanne Borgella (boot): “I Say A Little Prayer for You” - Dionne Warwick, but famously covered by Aretha Franklin, and I think it was the Aretha arrangement we heard.
Alaina Whitaker: “More Today Than Yesterday” - Spiral Staircase. See Chicuzzi.
Amanda Overmeyer: “Baby Please Don’t Go” - Van Morrison (actually, his original band, Them.) In case you didn’t catch the lyrics, they’re all about New Orleans, and shackles, and county farms.
Amy Davis (boot): “Where The Boys Are” - Connie Francis. Gag. Awful song, from the 1960 movie of the same name about 4 co-eds on spring break, with Yvette Mimieux and George Hamilton.
Brooke White: “Happy Together” - The Turtles. Yay! See David Cook.
Alexandrea Lushington: “Spinning Wheel” - Blood, Sweat & Tears. At least they cut the circus music off-key ending.
Kady Malloy: “A Groovy Kind Of Love” - The Mindbenders (covered in the 80s by Phil Collins). Ummm…why? Camp value?
Asia’h Epperson: “Piece Of My Heart” - Janis Joplin Decent rendition of one of the best.songs.ever.
Ramiele Malubay: “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” - Dusty Springfield. Loved it.
Syesha Mercado: “Tobacco Road” - The Nashville Teens. Again, the rights must be cheap.
Carly Smithson: “The Shadow Of Your Smile” - Tony Bennett (according to the Idol site)
