I agree with Shayna though that John Davidson was a MUCH better singer.

Wooo Hoooo! JPL got the boot. I never thought that’d happen. I was sure we were going to have to listen to him butcher songs for a few more weeks, but America finally got it right IMHO. Yay!

I liked the way they did the paring down tonight. They just named all the safe people and the last three were the last thee.
It was the right bottom three, btw. And it showed that the chaff is going to get sorted out from the wheat after all.
I wondered if that’s what would happen when I saw the 3 sitting on the bottom row.
And I called it wrong! Maybe I should just make it a habit of declaring people safe whom I’d really rather see go?

John, Jon, Diana were bottom three. I though JPL went out with style. I keep finding myself liking these kids best as they leave (JPL, Matt, Amy, even Camile, but not Leah).
I hereby predict Diana will go next, then John Stevens (he should do fine on Manilow night and bomb on Latin Pop night). After that, I dunno.
Did anyone see Quentin on Conan?
The first thing they talked about (before Kill Bill even) was American Idol, and specifically John Stevens.
Quentin said he hates JS, and watches the show with friends who all hate him, and they wanted him to go on the show and say something mean, but when he got there JS was actually quite good in person on this song. Although he did still tell him he wasn’t a fan.
My favorites since the beginning have been Fantasia and John. Everyone other than them just seems generic.
I also said near the beginning that I hoped John would get kicked off soon, because he is too young, too limited in style, and would not be suited to being the American Idol at all. And he would avoid more of those awful skits.
Fantasia is the best by far though.
The right 3 people (Diana and Jasmine are kindof interchageable) were in the bottom 3 tonight and one of the 2 right ones is now gone.
But what the heck is it about the singout that so many of them nail it, when they flubbed it so badly in the original performance? I still say Jon should hire a band and become a rock singer.
If QT even considered going onto the show to say something mean to that 16-year-old kid, who is a very class act, then that would change my opinion of QT.
Why does the departing singer perform? It seems rather macabre.
One last good-bye? Plus it probably makes them feel a bit better to be reminded that this audience still likes them.
And Shayna, my theory as to why they do better when singing after they’re eliminated is that all of the STRESS is gone and they can just sing without any pressure on them.
Well, JS is an easy target, and QT seems like the kind of person who can’t resist an easy target. He probably took a lot of crap himself when he was in school, and now he’s in a position to dish it out. But good for him that he apparently realized that taking JS to task for previous performances would have been very low-class.
I’m okay with JPL going home, but I do think John Stevens should have gone first. Heck, I think the poor kid wants to go home. At least JPL had enthusiasm.
You know, I have heard a couple of people say John Stevens wants to go home but I am not so sure. If he wants to go home, why does he try so hard with his performances?
I do think he always feels really sad for the person who gets voted off. He looks just devastated to me.
Stevens and Lewis both strike me as happy-go-lucky kids who did this whole thing on a lark and never expected to go this far and don’t think that it’s all about them and their success. They do their best, but they aren’t obsessed with their own “success story,” so much as the Dianas and Jennifers in the contest. George, I thought, was in the same camp but now I’m not so sure… I think he’s starting to take himself seriously and it might be what kills him.
I think contestants have to get over the idea that this is really going to make them an “American Idol.” It’s a game show.
QT said to Diana that she picked the one song no one would ever want to hear again, and that she did Ok but so what? It’s like she’s behind glass.
I thought he called that one perfectly! She is too young and Mickey Mouse Club to sing about heartbreak, and it just looks artificial and staged, like the kiddie pageants. I felt kind of bad for her because she was so into the chance to perform that song, but someone should have warned her away from it.
I am and I do remember him. I get the similarity in looks. . . but, John Davidson could sing!
