American Idol vs. Showtime at the Apollo

I keep thinking that AI ought to be able to find better contestants. This season beats the heck out of last year, but when I was watching Showtime at the Apollo (before Steve Harvey left) the level of talent eclipsed all of them.

Agree?

I thought this thread was gonna compare the shows. Just to go off on a tangent, I like Showtime at the Apollo more based on the sole fact that the audience is actually tough, instead of mindlessly-cheering idiots like at American Idol. And I don’t think I can recall seeing somebody at the Apollo winning because of their cuteness. If American Idol could incorporate the live audience’s reactions, then they would have the ultimate show. Maybe during the auditions, you have to sing in front of an Apollo-like audience. If you’re booed off, you’re out. Otherwise, you go on to be picked by the judges.

Yeah, I know. Fat chance.

Actually, I think this is related to what you were saying. The judges (and I guess pre-judges or producers) taste eliminates a lot of people who might be more talented (at least your or my eyes).

Actually I was hoping to compare the shows, but my Googling didn’t turn up enough factual information. All I can recall for sure is Anita Baker was discovered at the Apollo.
