American Inventor 3/30

According to the TV Times, one of tonight’s inventors is so sure of his invention’s durability that he is willing to drive a truck over it. Hmmmmm…What could it be?

I also saw a creepy promo for some kind of mechanized pet-petting device. :dubious:

Tune in later, then come on in and post!

Anybody?

I forgot about it! I’ll have to hope my tivo caught it.

A retractable speedbump.

I can’t be the only one who thought that they were idiots to let that life saver thing guy go, right? I mean, that thing would make a bunch of money with your standard camper, families with beach houses, etc.

I think the argument is that there already exists many kinds of this product.

It wasn’t unique enough, though I don’t know this personally.

Well, Doug Hall seemed to think that the retractable life-saving device just wouldn’t work.

Personally, I think he was kinda full of it tonight. Last week, I agreed with him 100% on everything, especially with regard to technical matters. Last night though, I think there were several occasions wherein he was talking through his hat.

Case in point: That novelty plate idea. He said that it would cost too much to manufacture, but I don’t see why. It seems to me that it shouldn’t be too difficult to design a press that could build such a thing efficiently. At the very least, I would have given that inventor a shot at making it economical.

And why did he shoot down the electronic spelling game? He didn’t have any technical objections to the thing; rather, he argued that it wouldn’t sell because people would rather buy these things from the big game manufacturers. I don’t see why. I think that most people don’t particularly care if an electronic game–especially an educational one–comes from Nintendo, from Parker Brothers, or from some hole-in-the-wall Chinese company.

I think it would all depend on how the game was promoted – and if the game gets a big boost by being featured on prime-time television, that’s half of your marketing strategy right there!

Was that the fat guy in the blue shirt? Because if so, he was an asshole. I don’t normally watch this show or its ilk, but I was killing time before the hockey game and caught the last 10 minutes or so. What a shithead that guy was. “This show isn’t called ‘Sob Story.’” I’m glad I saw it so I never feel the need to waste my time on that jerk again.

Okay, I don’t remember seeing this up here, so I’m gonna ask. According to the show and it’s webpage:

Have they ever bothered to name a single one of them? That’s all fine and good that he’s invented so much stuff that we use, but what the hell ARE these things?

I’ve had doubts about Doug Hall ever since he said yes to the Tizzy Tube.

The Toe Jam thing was gross, but it made me laugh pretty hard.

I am astonished that they said yes to the disposable paper bedsheets.
