American Inventor 5/4

I’m not addressing the first hour, since it’s all recaps. I don’t remember who’s left for the second hour tonight, but after this there will only be three or four finalists.

Later…

:smack: D’oh! The first hour was not a recap after all. It was Peter Jones choosing the Word Ace guy to become a finalist; he beat out the lady with the liner for wigs and the guy with the toner belt.

Now for the second hour, it’s Doug choosing someone.

I have to say, this show could really use a reduction in the theatrics and the tears and the emotional song at the end, not to mention the heartbeat effect as we see the final two before one is chosen.

I’m starting to enjoy the show, though. And the judges are pretty good. The ‘bathroom survival kit’ was a decent idea that turned out to be too big, too unwieldy, and too gimmicky. They should have made the clip out of aluminum so it would hold the weight of a purse.

The toilet thing would never fly. Too hard to convince people of, not enough of a direct health threat, and now you have to buy replaceable carbon pads for your toilet. Plus, I think sitting up against that pad would give people the squickies.

I like the idea of that car seat, but man, it will cost a lot of money to get a new type of seat like that properly engineered and certified. And I’d have lots of concerns about the rocking motion in regular traffic making the baby sick, and all kinds of liability concerns if the mechanism stuck or the baby was injured by being upside down at the wrong time. On the other hand, in a rollover, the baby would flip over and remain right-side up, which is kind of cool. Anyway, I suspect it would take millions to get that thing to market, and it would be very expensive and require a minivan. Definitely a boutique item.
