The “stress” excuse is certainly distasteful and unconvincing. There are thousands of other guys under the exact same amount of stress and fatigue who manage to not to rape and murder little girls with their families.
I also don’t think ten years is long enough, but “eligible for parole,” doesn’t mean he WILL be paroled. I expect that he would not.
The only defense for this kind of sentence would be that he’s testifying against the others and that he wasn’t the shooter. Still the fact that any of them could could go along with these crimes and help to destroy evidence is appalling. One of the victims, the rape victim’s sister, was a five-year old girl. That crime all by itself, the casual, cold-blooded murder of a five-year old girl, is an atrocity beyond comprehension. No amount of stress can justify these crimes. If five gang menmbers invaded a middle class American home and committed these crimes against an American family, no one would even TRY to explain it or justify it and anything less than life without parole all around would be met with outrage. None of these guys ever deserve to see the sun again.
I don’t even know how many of them know about this (I sure as hell didn’t until I followed your link). And no, I can’t think of any of my friend’s that have taken a conscientious objector stance or anything.
I’m not seeing how that makes any of them scum that requires hanging.
No, fuck you, you trolling sock puppet fuckwit. You’ve got less class than an average crack whore and the intellect of a steaming pile of cow shit. Fuck off and go away.
Go on and defend them. Support the troops. Nevermind that if these same troops would just stand up for the justice this would never happen.
If they would all stand up and say we won’t stand for this in our organization this would never happen. But they don’t. Just like My Lai. And this will happen again.
I’d heard that the troops were the ones that decided to go to war, and wasn’t a decision from the government…sigh
Your viewpoints of the war itself shouldn’t even come into your opinion of the military. The same men and women would and do fight for your right to disagree with them. They’re all doing a job that few would be willing to do. Maybe think about hating the man in charge.
That aside, now, I’ll agree that the individuals in the story are scum and I can’t think of much I’d say was too harsh for them. But to extend this to “fuck the US military and are all scum” is an incoherant sweeping generalisation. And I hate all sweeping generalisations.
