American Shirt Tails

Does anyone know why the shirt tails on American shirts are so much shorter than those on European shirts (other than that manufacturers here are cheap)? On an American shirt, the final button is usually located above my belly button whereas on European shirts, I often find at least two more buttons below the navel. Needless to say, that reduces unintended exposure significantly. I have tried on shirts so short that I couldn’t even tuck them into my pants, and with an average American-made shirt, bending down once is enough to pull the whole thing out.
And I am not unusually tall, only 6’2".

I know there are XLT sizes, but I am talking about your normal size here. Anyone have any ideas other than that American men like to show their hairy guts to the world?

Hate to say this, but when I say the OP I was excited because I thought it was a thread about the old Shirt Tails cartoon…
But as far as the differences, I believe it may have something to do with average male heights in the different countries?

Are you wearing your pants at the correct height?

I’m 6’2 and this sounded strange to me so I went into my closet and checked my shirts which as far as I know are all American-made. The final buttons on them came down to around my groin area so I don’t know what your talking about. Are you sure you’re wearing men’s shirts?

On my husband (also 6’2’’) I don’t recall them coming down that far unless the shirt was significantly larger/looser over all.

I’m only 5’9" but don’t American shirt-wearing men tip into the “big and tall” range at about 6’?

'Scuse me? I’m 6’3" and I have yet to find an American shirt whose lowest button is significantly below my waistline. Where the heck do you buy these shirts, cause I really want me some!

I buy them in the normal department stores. Upon further comparison I’d estimate that the shirts I possess have buttons about 1 to 2 inches below my waist. I’ll say this though most of my height is in my legs so perhaps I have longer legs but shorter torso than most people of my height?

It tends to vary with the quality of the shirt. Better made, and more costly, shirts usually have 7 buttons, where moderately priced ones have 6 buttons (at least in the sizes I’m familiar with).

To clarify, that’s not by putting the buttons closer together, but by making the shirt longer.
